Lu Jingzhi looked completely at ease, as if he had no worries in the world. He continued to eat, his chopsticks never stopping, and he generously praised Sang Yu's cooking.
He hadn’t expected Sang Yu’s culinary skills to be this impressive. It wasn’t flattery; the dishes she prepared were genuinely delightful, at least to his taste.
Sang Yu smiled a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes, remaining silent.
Lu Jingzhi discreetly observed her expression, relieved to see that she didn’t seem to reject him. He couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. He had never pursued a woman before, let alone an ex-girlfriend, so he had no idea how to win Sang Yu back as his girlfriend again.
Despite this, Lu Jingzhi enjoyed the meal immensely. Who was he? Lu Jingzhi! Nothing could defeat him.
However, for Sang Yu, the meal felt bland and tasteless. To be precise, she and Lu Jingzhi weren’t particularly close. Although they had dated for nearly a year, it was mostly Sang Yu chasing after him; there hadn’t been much communication between them, and their relationship was even more distant than that of ordinary friends.
Moreover, they hadn’t seen each other since graduating high school and hadn’t been in touch at all.
After washing her bowl and stepping out of the kitchen, Sang Yu saw Lu Jingzhi lounging on the sofa with his eyes closed, his long legs sprawled out comfortably, filling the gap between the sofa and the coffee table. For a moment, Sang Yu didn’t know whether to enter or retreat. She felt for the first time that her apartment was so small that there was nowhere to escape.
As if sensing something, Lu Jingzhi slowly opened his eyes and lifted his head slightly to look at Sang Yu. His eyes were slightly bloodshot, likely due to lack of sleep from working too hard lately. There was an unspoken emotion in his charming peach blossom eyes.
Sang Yu instinctively lowered her head to avoid his gaze, and for a moment, they fell into a silence.
“How did you know I lived here?” Sang Yu finally couldn’t help but ask.
“If I want to know something, I will find out,” Lu Jingzhi replied with his usual smile.
“Did you come here for something?” She thought that after their breakup, they wouldn’t have any more interactions.
“What do you think?” Lu Jingzhi countered.
Sang Yu was taken aback by his question. How could she possibly know why he came to see her? She didn’t think she had anything worth his attention. Could it be about that time when she drunkenly kissed him? That seemed unlikely; she hadn’t been as clingy as she was in high school.
Besides, wasn’t it the woman who would be at a disadvantage in such situations?
Sang Yu glanced up at Lu Jingzhi’s strikingly handsome face and suddenly felt a bit guilty.
Uh, maybe… possibly… she hadn’t really lost out after all.
Lu Jingzhi watched as Sang Yu stole glances at him with a guilty expression and couldn’t help but find her adorable in that moment. His gaze darkened as he lowered his eyes to hide his emotions. “Sang Yu, you kissed me without warning before—have you forgotten?”
Sang Yu opened her mouth but hesitated before finally blurting out, “It was just a kiss! Do you really need to remember it until now? You’re a grown man; isn’t that a bit petty? Besides, isn’t it usually the girl who ends up at a disadvantage in these situations?”
As Lu Jingzhi’s gaze grew increasingly intense, Sang Yu’s voice became softer and softer until she eventually fell silent with her head down.
Inside, Lu Jingzhi felt an uncontrollable fire burning within him—he didn’t want to suppress it any longer. Just a kiss? How many men had this woman kissed for her to speak so casually about it?
