"You don't want to leave, do you? How can I let go of your wrist? You're forcing me," Lu Jing said, holding on tightly.
"I won't let go unless you promise to go eat with me." Lu Jing's shamelessness was unmatched.
"You're acting like a rogue now," Sang Yu huffed, struggling to break free. "You weren't like this before."
"I used to be quite the rogue too. Didn't you notice? Just listen to my tone; it really sounds like a rogue, doesn't it?"
Sang Yu shot him an exasperated glance. "There are plenty of people who want to have dinner with you. Why do you have to pick me?"
"I just want to eat with you," Lu Jing said, looking at her meaningfully.
Sang Yu's heart skipped a beat at his words. Suddenly feeling more agitated, she struggled harder. "But I don't want to eat with you!"
Seeing Sang Yu acting like a little hedgehog, Lu Jing knew he couldn't rush things between them. Realizing they might not have dinner today, he decided to change his approach.
"Give me your phone," Lu Jing said, extending his left hand toward her.
"What?" The abrupt shift in topic caught Sang Yu off guard, and she didn't react immediately.
"Your phone," Lu Jing repeated patiently.
"What do you need my phone for?" Sang Yu asked, looking at him suspiciously, doubting his intentions.
Lu Jing remained silent, just staring at her. Feeling uncomfortable under his gaze, Sang Yu eventually succumbed and pulled her phone from the pocket of her down jacket, handing it over to him.
Taking the phone, Lu Jing released her wrist and then pulled out his own phone from his coat, fiddling with both devices.
After Lu Jing let go of her wrist, Sang Yu felt a slight sense of loss; it was as if his warmth still lingered on her skin. She scolded herself internally: "Sang Xiaoyu, what are you thinking? How could anything happen between you two? It was impossible before and it will be impossible in the future."
Before long, Lu Jing returned Sang Yu's phone. "I just added each other on WeChat; we're friends now. I've saved my number in your phone too. From now on, we can contact each other through WeChat, and you can call me if you need anything. It wouldn't do for me to be your boyfriend without any way to reach each other."
"It's cold; you should head back now. Let's keep in touch through WeChat." As he noticed that Sang Yu's scarf had loosened around her neck, Lu Jing stepped forward and tightened it for her.
Sang Yu turned around in a daze and walked into the school. It seemed that every time she encountered Lu Jing, her mind went blank and she lost control of herself.
Watching Sang Yu enter the school, Lu Jing finally turned and got into his car to leave. Although they didn't get to have dinner today, they had added each other on WeChat—today was still a fruitful day.
Guo Daye watched the two young people part ways, feeling quite pleased, humming a little tune to himself. He thought to himself that there was no way these two were just friends; the way they interacted was far too intimate, clearly indicating they were a couple. Teacher Sang was just too shy to admit it.
Sang Yu replied, "No, Guo Daye, where do you see our relationship as being so close?"
Once back in the office, Sang Yu felt as if he had come back to life. He pulled out his phone from the pocket of his down jacket, opened WeChat, and searched for a friend request. The WeChat name was Lu Jing, with a profile picture of a boy dressed in all black sportswear, wearing a baseball cap and standing against a grassy backdrop.
He clicked on the Moments section, only to find it completely empty except for the note: "Friends can only see the last three days of Moments."
After that, Sang Yu kept staring at Lu Jing's profile picture, lost in thought until the morning classes ended.
