"Can you spare me? This kind of TV drama isn't suitable for your son."
Lu Mu was just saying it casually, not really intending for him to watch it. "By the way, are you working tomorrow?"
"Yes."
"Working on Saturday?"
"Mom, I'm very busy!"
"Oh, right. Come home early for dinner tomorrow. Aunt Geng is back and wants to have dinner with us."
"Aunt Geng? Which Aunt Geng? I don't remember knowing anyone with the surname Geng."
"She's a friend of your mom's. You met her when you were little, but she's been abroad for over twenty years and just came back. You probably don't remember her."
Lu Jingzhi thought to himself: Should he remember? She’s been gone for over twenty years, and he’s only twenty-five now. He was barely five back then! He didn’t know her at all. Why should he even go? What was the point of her coming back?
"Just come when I say so. Stop talking back!" Lu Mu said.
"You're the boss; you decide," Lu Jingzhi replied.
"Alright then, if there's nothing else, can I go to my room?"
Lu Mu waved her hand impatiently. "Go on, go! Don't disturb me while I'm watching TV. This drama's leads are just too sweet! I love it!"
Lu Jingzhi thought: Didn’t she say she missed me? I just got here, and she’s already bothering me? Some things are better left unsaid.
Once in his room, he couldn't wait to video call Sang Yu.
Sang Yu glanced at the person on the screen—yes, it was Lu Jingzhi—and felt her perception of him slowly crumbling: "Hmm?"
"My mom is bullying me!" His tone sounded like a little wife complaining.
Sang Yu was somewhat speechless. "If your mom is bullying you, why are you calling me? As if I can do anything about it."
"What are you doing?" Lu Jingzhi asked as he noticed Sang Yu wasn’t paying attention to him and seemed indifferent.
"Huh? Oh, I'm watching TV." Sang Yu replied absentmindedly.
"What are you watching?" He wondered what could be more interesting than him that she wouldn’t even acknowledge him.
"You Are My Glory."
Hearing the name of the TV drama, Lu Jingzhi felt somewhat speechless. Was this show really that popular? It seemed like his mother was also watching it.
"Is this drama really that good?" Lu Jingzhi asked.
Sang Yu finally had a moment to give Lu Jingzhi a glance. "It’s actually quite good. The female lead reunites with her high school crush after more than a decade. They support each other in their careers and ultimately find happiness together. It's a sweet show that makes you smile like an auntie when you watch it."
Thinking about how both of them were also high school classmates, and that this person was her ex-boyfriend, Sang Yu's mood suddenly soured. She didn't want to see him right now. "Just hang up, don’t disturb me while I’m watching TV," she said, and then ended the video call.
Lu Jingzhi stared blankly at the screen after the call ended. Had he done something to annoy her? He couldn’t understand why everyone seemed to be rejecting him. Little did he know, it was all due to the consequences of his past actions.
