"Am I really that stupid?" Sang Yu felt frustrated. It had been such a long time, and she hadn't scored many goals; she was feeling a bit disheartened.
"Well, you aren't exactly the brightest," Lu Jing said with a mock seriousness.
Sang Yu's eyes widened at Lu Jing's words. She knew he would think she was foolish. Although it was true, hearing Lu Jing say it made her feel a little sad.
Seeing Sang Yu on the verge of tears, Lu Jing panicked for a moment and hurriedly wiped her tears away. "Why are you crying? I was just joking!"
"My dear, you're so smart! How else could you become a teacher?" Lu Jing teased, playfully pinching Sang Yu's cheek. "So soft!"
However, this only made Sang Yu feel worse. She had worked tirelessly, studying late into the night and practicing hard to pass her exams. Wasn't this just rubbing salt in her wounds?
Lu Jing watched in disbelief as Sang Yu cried even harder. What was happening? Why was she crying more?
Finally, at his wit's end, Lu Jing threatened, "If you keep crying, I might just have to kiss you!"
Sang Yu gasped in surprise and stopped crying immediately.
Seeing that Sang Yu had calmed down, Lu Jing sighed in relief. He really didn't know how to comfort her when she cried; thankfully, this tactic worked.
"You’re not stupid, really! Let me tell you, Bai An was much worse when he started learning," Lu Jing whispered to Sang Yu, careful not to let Bai An overhear. He didn't have time to get into a fight with him right now.
Sang Yu playfully punched Lu Jing's chest with her tiny fist and finally smiled through her tears.
"You really don't think I'm dumb?" Sang Yu asked, her eyes still red. It seemed that if Lu Jing said she was foolish again, she'd start crying all over again.
Lu Jing quickly shook his head. After finally calming her down, he wouldn't dare say otherwise. Besides, he secretly enjoyed this; he wouldn't mind if Sang Yu took a bit longer to learn so he could take advantage of the situation.
Eventually, Sang Yu stopped crying and smiled genuinely. She didn't know why she had become so emotional; she wasn't usually this sensitive. Glancing at the others who were discreetly watching them, she felt embarrassed that they had seen her in such a vulnerable state. It was truly humiliating! She buried her face in Lu Jing's embrace, too shy to look up.
Lu Jing chuckled at the top of her head. He wondered when she would stop being so shy; it seemed like an unchangeable habit of hers.
He shot a glance at the others, signaling them to mind their own business and not stare at Sang Yu.
After a while, Lu Jing finally spoke up. "Alright, they're all busy playing; they're not watching you." Although he enjoyed having his girlfriend in his arms, he worried that she might feel uncomfortable hiding away like that.
Hearing Lu Jing's words made Sang Yu feel less embarrassed. Slowly lifting her head from his embrace, she noticed that the others were indeed focused on their own activities and not paying attention to them anymore. She let out a sigh of relief.
This was truly embarrassing!
The others understood that Sang Yu was shy and didn’t tease her about it; they pretended nothing had happened and continued chatting and playing basketball.
As they played until lunchtime, Sang Yu’s skills finally improved a bit. For that, she felt quite satisfied.
"What do you want to eat?" Lu Jing asked.
"Anything is fine. Why not ask the others what they feel like?" Sang Yu replied, indicating that she wasn't picky.
