"Alright, alright, I won't laugh anymore." Lu Jingzhi held Sang Yu's hand, playing with it in his grasp, and stopped laughing, fearing that the little girl might actually get angry, leaving him to console her in the end.
"Hmph! You should sing a song too!" Sang Yu commanded, eager to hear how he would perform.
Seeing Sang Yu's rare display of pride, Lu Jingzhi felt that she was much more vibrant than usual at that moment. It seemed that singing this song had not been in vain; there was indeed some reward.
Taking a puff of his cigarette, he finally spoke up, "Do you really want me to sing?"
"Yes, yes! Hurry up!" Sang Yu urged impatiently. She had never heard him sing during their high school days and figured he probably wouldn't be that great.
Noticing the mischievous glint in his girlfriend's eyes, Lu Jingzhi couldn't help but smile. Did she want to see him make a fool of himself? His Bao'er was bound to be disappointed.
"Alright then," Lu Jingzhi said as he ruffled Sang Yu's hair, casually extinguishing his cigarette and taking the microphone from Bai An's hands. "Old An, play Rong Hao's 'Young and Promising' for me."
"No problem!" An Yu exclaimed excitedly upon hearing that Lu Jingzhi was going to sing. He had grown up with Lu Jingzhi and knew exactly what level his singing was at; however, Lu Ge rarely sang, so they had very few opportunities to hear him.
An Yu secretly glanced at Sang Yu and thought to himself, tsk tsk tsk, these two really were opposites but somehow matched well.
When Sang Yu heard that Lu Jingzhi was going to sing Rong Hao's "Young and Promising," she was quite surprised because she liked that song too.
As the music began, everyone suddenly fell silent. This silence was completely different from when Sang Yu had sung earlier; this time, everyone was immersed in the moment.
"If I am Young and Promising without feeling inferior, understanding what is precious; those beautiful dreams I didn’t give you leave me with regrets for life. If I am Young and Promising knowing when to advance and retreat, I wouldn’t let you suffer; drink a few more cups at the wedding with your partner..."
As the song concluded, everyone erupted into enthusiastic applause. Sang Yu remained lost in thought; she had never known that Lu Jingzhi could sing so beautifully.
"Oh oh oh! Lu Ge! Lu Ge!"
"Sing another one! Sing another one!"
"You should be grateful if I let you hear one song!" Lu Jingzhi laughed as he placed the microphone back on the table.
Walking over to Sang Yu's side, he noticed her dazed expression with no reaction. He gently flicked her forehead with his finger. "What's wrong? Are you stunned?"
"You sing so well," Sang Yu said after coming back to her senses, her eyes filled with admiration as she looked at Lu Jingzhi. This time there was no hiding the love in her gaze; she truly liked this man who was so outstanding.
Seeing Sang Yu like this made a small sense of pride swell within Lu Jingzhi. He leaned down and kissed her red lips softly. "Your man has many talents; you'll find out soon enough."
"So narcissistic!" Sang Yu muttered under her breath. However, she had to admit that he indeed had the right to be a little self-absorbed.
Sang Yu gazed at Lu Jingzhi's profile—the defined jawline, the high nose bridge—his youthful innocence had faded away, replaced by a mature charm. She had always known that Lu Jingzhi was an exceptional person; otherwise, she wouldn't have been so infatuated with him back then.
Now that he was once again her boyfriend, it gave her an almost surreal feeling. Ever since they broke up, she had never imagined that she would have him back in her life again.
