Sang Yu suddenly leaned in and kissed Lu Jingzhi. He was taken aback by the unexpected kiss, clearly surprised that she would take the initiative. Since their reunion, it had always been him making the first move.
Deep down, he understood that Sang Yu lacked a sense of security due to their past. Even though he was the one who always reached out to her, and she never made any advances, Lu Jingzhi had never held it against her. After all, he was the one who had caused all of this.
So, seeing Sang Yu take the initiative to kiss him genuinely made him happy. He looked at her with delight, but Sang Yu felt shy under his gaze and lowered her head, internally lamenting what had just happened. Why had she kissed Lu Jingzhi?
"Baby, I'm so glad you finally took the initiative to kiss me," Lu Jingzhi said as he pulled Sang Yu into his embrace.
"But was that kiss a bit too perfunctory? Hmm? Let me show you what a real kiss should be like." With that, Lu Jingzhi raised her chin with his right hand and leaned down to give her a passionate French kiss.
In the dim light of the secluded corner, it was the perfect setting for couples to engage in some shy moments together. It wasn't until Sang Yu was breathless that Lu Jingzhi finally let her go.
He looked at her panting form and couldn't help but chuckle. Sang Yu shot him an annoyed glare and punched him lightly in the chest. Why was he laughing at her?
Leaning closer to her ear, Lu Jingzhi whispered, "Bao'er, we've kissed so many times now, yet you still haven't learned how to breathe properly. Looks like we’ll have to practice more often." His voice was low and sultry.
Sang Yu's ears tingled at his words; his warm breath against her skin made her instinctively shrink back. Lu Jingzhi was being too forward, and she found herself unable to resist.
"No! You can't come into my room!" Sang Yu blocked the doorway, refusing to let him pass. "Go back to your own room!"
She thought to herself: Who knows if you’ll even come out again? After what happened during their afternoon nap, she really didn’t dare to be alone with Lu Jingzhi again. Plus, she feared she wouldn’t be able to control herself!
Lu Jingzhi feigned innocence. "Why can’t I sleep in the same room as my girlfriend when we’re out having fun?"
"Baby, can’t I just sit in there for a bit? I promise I’ll come out after a little while," he pleaded.
"No! Just look at the time; it’s already past midnight! I’m tired and need to sleep." Sang Yu's tone was resolute this time. She knew that showing mercy to an enemy would only be cruel to herself; she had to stand firm.
"Me? An enemy? Sang Xiaoyu, are you kidding me?" Lu Jingzhi exclaimed.
Sang Yu didn’t want to get tangled up with him any longer. She swiped her key card, pushed the door open, and stepped inside before shutting it firmly behind her—all in one fluid motion.
Bang!
Lu Jingzhi stared at the closed door in disbelief, realizing he wouldn’t be getting in tonight. With a sigh of resignation, he returned to his own room, watching his dreams of cuddling with his girlfriend fade away.
After staying up late last night, Sang Yu woke up around eight in the morning. Stretching lazily in bed during winter always tempted her to stay under the covers longer. Unable to resist, she dozed off again for a little while before finally dragging herself out of bed—thankfully without any interruptions from Lu Jingzhi throughout the night.
Meanwhile, in the other room, Lu Jingzhi had a different experience. He tossed and turned all night before finally falling asleep and only opened his eyes when Sang Yu called him in the morning.
Lu Jingzhi had not even opened his eyes when he fumbled for his phone and answered the call. His voice was a bit hoarse from just waking up, exuding a certain masculine charm that, at least to Sang Yu's ears, was quite appealing.
"Still asleep? It's already nine o'clock. When are we heading back?"
"Bao'er, you're awake?" Lu Jingzhi finally opened his eyes and glanced at his phone; it was indeed past nine.
"Yeah, I'm all packed. We can leave anytime."
"Just give me a moment; I'll get up now." After hanging up, Lu Jingzhi got out of bed.
Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he noticed the dark circles under his eyes and felt like a disgruntled housewife yearning for something more.
Once he was ready, Lu Jingzhi knocked on Sang Yu's door. "Are we leaving now?" she asked.
"Aren't you hungry? Let's grab breakfast first." He took her hand and led her to the restaurant. It wouldn’t be right to let his girlfriend go back on an empty stomach; that wasn't what a qualified boyfriend should do.
"Um, I'm okay. I can skip it," she replied, not feeling particularly hungry.
"We can't skip breakfast. Besides, we don't have anything urgent to do. Let's eat first and then head out."
She mainly worried about delaying him since he mentioned having work to handle at the company today. If he said it was fine, then they could have breakfast before heading back.
"Why do you have such heavy dark circles? Didn't you sleep well last night?" Sang Yu asked while eating her breakfast, glancing at Lu Jingzhi.
He remained silent, looking at her with a hint of melancholy. Did she really not know why he had such dark circles? Hmph!
Sang Yu shrugged it off and continued to eat her breakfast without pressing further.
After finishing their meal and saying goodbye to a few others, they planned to head home since Lu Jingzhi had work in the afternoon.
"It’s only eleven o'clock when we get home. When are you going to the office?"
"After lunch," Lu Jingzhi replied as he checked his watch. By the time he got to the office, it would be nearly noon.
Sang Yu nodded. "We’re out of groceries at home; let’s stop by the supermarket." The two of them went shopping for a bit, and Sang Yu quickly prepared lunch. After eating at her place, Lu Jingzhi left.
In the afternoon, Sang Yu felt bored staying at home and didn’t want to take a nap, so she decided to do a thorough cleaning of her apartment. Looking at the freshly tidied room lifted her spirits considerably.
Life went on in this simple yet warm manner. Although they didn’t see each other every day, they met three or four times a week. There were two occasions when Lu Jingzhi suggested that Sang Yu move in with him, but she had turned him down each time.
Sang Yu felt that their current situation was just fine; she was satisfied with how things were. Moreover, the place she rented was much closer to school than Lu Jingzhi's apartment, making her commute very convenient.
Ultimately, she wasn’t ready for cohabitation with Lu Jingzhi yet. Don’t ask her why; she didn’t know either—perhaps it was simply a lack of confidence in their relationship.
