After hanging up the video call with Sang's monther, Sang Yu completely forgot to tell Lu Jing that she would be going home for the holidays.
A few days later, her sister Sang Xia called her, "Sister, I'm having dinner with friends today and I'll be staying at your place for the next few days. It's the holidays, and all my high school friends are back and want to get together. Since my house is far from the district, it's much more convenient to stay at your place."
"Sure, come on over. You can stay as long as you want." The bond between the two sisters was still very strong.
Sang Yu had seen her sister during the summer vacation and missed her a lot. Although they often video chatted, it was never the same as being together in person.
Knowing that her sister would be out with friends for dinner, Sang Yu quickly cooked a simple dish and had a bit of rice.
Later that evening, while video chatting with Lu Jing, Sang Xia returned home. "Sister! Open the door, I'm back!"
At that moment, Sang Yu remembered she had forgotten to tell Lu Jing that her sister was coming to stay. She quickly said to Lu Jing, "I have to hang up for a bit," and hurriedly ended the call.
Lu Jing stared at the screen in frustration after being abruptly cut off. He couldn't understand why his girlfriend seemed so rushed at such a late hour; it left him feeling anxious.
"Sister! I missed you!" As soon as Sang Yu opened the door, Sang Xia rushed in for a hug.
"I missed you too!" Sang Yu held her sister tightly.
"Come on! Get inside!" Since Lin Yue often visited, Sang Yu had prepared some slippers. While grabbing them, she noticed a pair of men's slippers and quickly shoved them further inside.
Her family had no idea she was dating someone, especially since it was her ex-boyfriend. She believed that if they found out, she couldn't even imagine how explosive that situation would be. Her family had never had a good impression of Lu Jing.
"Here, put on these slippers." Sang Xia took the slippers from her sister and changed into them. She had been over a few times before and was quite familiar with the layout of the apartment.
"Here, have some fruit. What do you want to do?"
"Sounds good! It's been so long since we last met; everyone is still just like before," Sang Xia replied as she took the fruit from her sister.
"Take your time eating," Sang Yu said with a doting smile. Her sister had always been carefree and boyish since they were young, and even now she hadn't changed much.
As they chatted away, Sang Yu's WeChat notification chimed—Lu Jing was calling for a video chat. "You watch some TV for a bit; I’ll take this call."
Sang Yu went into the bathroom, closed the door tightly, and answered the video call. "What's up?" she whispered.
Lu Jing wondered why he felt like his girlfriend was acting like a thief.
"What happened just now? Are you done with whatever you were doing?"
Sang Yu replied, "Uh, it's nothing. My sister is here, so it's not convenient for me to video chat with you."
"Bao'er, am I really that hard to show off?"
She hesitated, thinking about how to tell him that her entire family disliked him. "No, um, I haven't told my family that I'm in a relationship yet."
"Then how long do you plan to hide me away, sweetheart?"
"Well, maybe after a while. I'll tell them soon." Although she said this, she still hadn't figured out how to approach her parents about it. The thought made her head ache. Never mind; she figured there would be a way out when the time came. If she could delay it for another day, she would. She continued, "Let's keep our communication to a minimum for the next few days. I'll reach out to you once my sister leaves."
Lu Jing looked at himself in the mirror. He had a tall and well-built figure, and his handsome face would make anyone say he was quite the catch. So why did he feel somewhat unpresentable when it came to his girlfriend? Little did he know that this feeling stemmed from his past misdeeds.
