"Sister, who are you video chatting with? Is it your boyfriend?" Sang Xia looked at her sister with suspicion. The secretive nature of the video call seemed off.
"Why are you asking so many questions, little kid? Just watch your TV," her sister replied dismissively.
Sang Xia rolled her eyes at her sister's response. "I'm in college now, I've been an adult for a while. Why can't I ask?"
"Oh, so you can date now? Have you found a boyfriend at school?" Sang Yu asked, raising an eyebrow.
Sang Xia shrugged nonchalantly. "There are a few who like me, but I’m not interested in dating. Studying is way more enjoyable than being in a relationship."
Seeing that her sister showed no signs of awakening to the realities of life, Sang Yu shook her head helplessly. Ever since she was young, Sang Xia had been dedicated to her studies, earning scholarships year after year. While other parents worried about their children falling in love too early, Sang Yu knew that even if she encouraged her sister to find a boyfriend, she wouldn’t bother.
"Men will only slow me down when I’m studying," Sang Xia concluded.
"So, it’s really not a boyfriend?" Sang Xia pressed on, not ready to give up.
"Nope, just a friend. Anyway, it’s already past ten. Time for bed. Do you want to take a shower?" Sang Yu skillfully changed the topic, fearing that too much discussion might reveal something.
"Of course I need to shower! That hot pot was delicious, but now I smell greasy," Sang Xia hurriedly replied.
After they both took their showers, they settled down for bed. With the holiday upon them, they had plenty of time to chat.
Even though her sister denied having a boyfriend, after observing her for the past few days, Sang Xia was convinced that Sang Yu was indeed seeing someone. Her sister was trying to hide it from her; did she really think she could outsmart her? Sang Xia decided to pretend she hadn’t noticed and wouldn’t expose her sister's secret.
However, she was curious about who could have such charm to win over her seemingly oblivious sister. After all, Sang Yu was quite stubborn; her first love in high school had left a significant impact on her. From what Sang Xia knew, her sister had genuinely liked that guy and it was hard for her to believe that she would easily forget him.
This thought made Sang Xia even more curious—was it still that same guy? She recalled what Lin Yue had said about how her sister ended up with him; he didn’t even like Sang Yu and had only been with her as part of a bet. The mere thought of this infuriated Sang Xia; she felt like giving that man a piece of her mind.
But now, looking at her sister's beautiful face, she thought there might still be a chance for them together. Perhaps that man had developed feelings for Sang Yu now that she had grown more attractive, while Sang Yu still held onto feelings for him.
Sang Xia couldn’t help but think to herself: "You’ve figured it out!"
So far, she had stayed at her sister's place for five nights. Logically speaking, she should have returned home by now; after all, she hadn’t spent quality time with their parents since coming back for the holiday.
However, given the current situation, she felt it was best not to leave until she figured out who this man was. She needed to accompany her sister home during the break and keep an eye on this potential boyfriend. If he turned out to be that guy from high school again, then she would need to observe him closely because if he came around again, Sang Yu would definitely struggle to handle it.
If he wasn’t that guy—well, that would be even better—but either way, she needed to keep watch. Her sister’s intelligence wasn’t exactly sharp; not that she was unintelligent—just too naive and never assumed the worst of people. Of course, Sang Xia wouldn’t deny that she was just a bit smarter than her sister.
Sang Xia felt the weight of responsibility on her shoulders; first things first: she needed to find out who Sang Yu's boyfriend was. She resolved to keep a close eye on her sister and see if there were any signs from this guy. She strongly suspected it might be someone from high school; otherwise, why would Sang Yu be so secretive around her?
