Sang Yu nodded; she was indeed a bit tired, all thanks to Lu Jingzhi. He wrapped his arms around her and accompanied her as she fell asleep. It wasn't until Sang Yu's phone rang that she stirred awake. Groggily, she reached for her phone and saw that it was Sang Xia calling. Instantly, she became alert, glancing at the time—it was already past six, and the sky outside had turned dark.
Seeing her phone continue to ring, Sang Yu cleared her throat before answering the call.
"Hello, Xia Xia?"
"Sis, why aren't you back yet?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you. We're having a dinner gathering tonight."
Sang Xia muttered to herself, "What dinner gathering? It must be with her boyfriend. How infuriating! Which guy has taken my sister away?"
Though Sang Xia thought this way in her mind, she said out loud, "Oh, a gathering? That's fine then; I won't wait for you."
"Xia Xia, don't cook at home. Let me order you some takeout or send you some money so you can eat out," Sang Yu said, feeling guilty and a bit anxious.
"No need, Sis. I see there's still instant noodles at home. I'll just have those; it's been a while since I've eaten them anyway."
"Alright then, I'll bring you some late-night snacks when I get back." Sang Yu reminded herself to remember to bring those snacks.
Lu Jingzhi woke up when Sang Yu's phone rang and waited until she finished her call before speaking up. "What do you want to eat?"
Hearing Lu Jingzhi's question, Sang Yu turned to look at him. "Are you going to cook for me?"
"Well, if you want something to eat, I can make it. But I can't guarantee the quality."
"Have you ever cooked before?" she asked.
"Seems like I haven't."
Sang Yu sighed; she already knew the answer.
"Forget it; I'll just cook for you." She got up to make dinner since it was getting late and she was hungry.
Lu Jingzhi grabbed her arm as she stood up. "You don't need to cook; there's nothing in the fridge. Let's just order takeout or go out to eat."
"Then why did you say you would cook for me? Are you lying?"
"Of course not!" Seeing Sang Yu's expression of disbelief, Lu Jingzhi firmly denied it. "How could I lie to you? If you want me to cook for you, there's a supermarket downstairs. We can just go buy some ingredients."
Sang Yu shook her head. "Forget it; by the time we buy the ingredients and cook, who knows what time it will be? Let's just order takeout instead; I don't feel like going out."
"Bao'er, is there anything you want to eat?" Lu Jingzhi picked up the phone from the bedside table.
Sang Yu thought for a moment and shook her head. "Just buy whatever you want."
"Alright," Lu Jingzhi replied. After considering it, he decided to order from the private kitchen they often frequented. The food there was quite good, and he thought his girlfriend would enjoy it. So, he ordered four dishes and a soup, which arrived fifty minutes later.
Sure enough, when the food was delivered, Sang Yu took a bite and immediately loved it; the flavors were exquisite.
"It's definitely the chef's skill," Sang Yu remarked as she sipped the warm soup.
"Go ahead and eat more. The chef really knows how to cook," Lu Jingzhi encouraged, adding more dishes to Sang Yu's bowl.
Sang Yu couldn't help but smile at her bowl overflowing with food. She realized that ever since they started dating, Lu Jingzhi had developed a habit of serving her food whenever they ate together, whether it was just the two of them or in the company of others. He always seemed worried that she wouldn't be full, and she wondered what was going through his mind.
However, she felt quite pleased with his gesture; it made her heart flutter with sweetness. Perhaps it was because he cared for her.
