"Dad! Mom!" Sang Yu greeted her grandparents as she stepped out of the car. 0

"Grandpa! Grandma!" 0

"Come in, come in! It's warm inside," Sang's grandpa and Sang's grandmother each took one granddaughter by the hand and led them home. They had no preference for grandsons over granddaughters; both Sang Yu and her sister, Sang Xia, received equal love from their grandparents, which made them very close to the elderly couple. 0

"Grandma, did you miss me?" 0

"Of course I missed you! It’s been six months since I last saw my granddaughter. How could I not miss you?!" 0

Once inside, Sang Yu noticed the table was filled with snacks and fruits. These were all things the grandparents had bought for the children during yesterday's market day. 0

"Here, have some sunflower seeds. They’re delicious! And these oranges are so sweet," Sang's grandmother said, holding a handful of seeds in one hand and an orange in the other, pushing them into Sang Yu and Sang Xia's hands. 0

"Mmm, sweet! Where did you buy these, Grandma? They're really good," Sang Xia said with her sweet tongue, making the two elders beam with joy. 0

"Eat as much as you want! Yesterday your grandpa and I went to the market and bought a lot of food. We have plenty!" The elderly couple had no shortage of money; their three sons sent them money every year, and they rarely spent it on anything. With the New Year approaching and their grandchildren coming to visit, they had decided to stock up on treats. 0

Sang Guodong noticed that the kitchen was already filled with many New Year goods when he brought in more supplies. He knew right away that his parents must have gone to the market. 0

Their village was not far from town—less than four miles—and since they had some money, the elderly couple often rode their electric scooter to browse around. 0

Chang Sangfu had repeatedly advised them to stay within the village and not venture into town too much because of the heavy traffic. At their age, he worried about them tripping or getting hurt; spending money was minor compared to the potential suffering they could endure. 0

"Mom, didn’t I tell you we would take care of buying New Year goods? Why did you buy so much? Did you go to town again?" The two elders didn’t want to trouble their children too much and often went by themselves. 0

"We just went for a stroll since there was a market yesterday," Sang's grandmother replied. 0

"You could have waited for me to take you today or let my older brother take you instead." 0

"Alright, alright! I know, but yesterday was the last market before the New Year. Your dad and I hadn’t been in a long time, so we couldn’t resist." 0

People in rural areas loved going to markets, especially older folks who preferred them over supermarkets because they found fresh and inexpensive goods there. 0

"You can’t do this next time! If you want to go out, take someone with you." 0

"Okay, okay," Sang's grandmother said dismissively. She thought her second son was becoming increasingly nagging since becoming a teacher. She wondered how her two older granddaughters managed with him. 0

"Is your dad like this at home too?" Sang's grandmother whispered to Sang Yu. 0

Sang Yu glanced at her father and silently laughed. "Yes, he is like this at home. You wouldn’t believe it; sometimes it can be quite annoying." 0

"If it were me, I’d be annoyed too. Poor my precious granddaughter," Sang's grandmother said with a chuckle. 0
