"Mom, are you feeling better?" Sang Qing knew that his mother had been unhappy for the past two years due to his marriage issues. Marriage was no trivial matter; he couldn't just find someone for the sake of his parents.
Over the past two years, he had rarely returned home, only coming back once during the New Year.
Sang Qing pulled out his phone and tapped a few times before handing it to Sister Sang. "Here."
Sister Sang looked confused. "What are you showing me? I can't see anything. The sunlight is too bright, and the screen is reflecting."
"Just go inside and take a look," Sang Qing said as he grabbed his suitcase and headed into the house. He had been carrying it since he walked in.
Sister Sang, still puzzled, followed him inside. Suddenly, she let out a shriek.
"What happened?" Sister-in-law exclaimed, startled.
Sang's grandmother patted her chest, trying to calm her racing heart. "What are you doing? You scared me half to death!"
"Mom! Come quick! I have a daughter-in-law!" Sister Sang shouted, excitedly looking at her phone, which displayed a close-up photo of her son with a girl.
"A daughter-in-law? Where?" Sang's grandmother's legs were already moving in anticipation of meeting her future granddaughter-in-law.
Sister Sang dashed out of the room. "Mom, look!" She thrust the phone in front of Sang's grandmother. Everyone gathered around, curious about Sang Qing's news, but unfortunately, they could only see darkness on the screen.
"We can't see anything!"
"Right, right! Let's go inside where we can see it better," Sang's grandmother said.
Sang's grandpa and Sang's grandmother both pulled out their old glasses; at their age, they felt nearly blind without them.
The phone displayed a picture of Sang Qing and a girl in an intimate pose that clearly indicated their close relationship.
"Wow! My granddaughter-in-law is really beautiful! Not bad at all!" Sang's grandmother exclaimed excitedly. In their village, girls her age were already grandmothers; although the third family's granddaughter had also given birth, that child belonged to another family and wasn't part of the Sang family.
Sang's grandpa smiled widely; finally, his eldest grandson had found someone special. He decided they would have to drink more tonight in celebration.
"Mom! Mom! Let me see too!" Uncle Sang jumped up anxiously from the side.
"Here, take a look at your daughter-in-law," Sang's grandmother handed the phone to Uncle Sang. He took it with glee and rubbed his hands together while repeating how good she looked.
"Uncle San, are you done? Let us see who my brother has found as our sister-in-law!" Sang Xia finally couldn't hold back any longer. Uncle San had been hogging the phone while surrounded by relatives; she couldn't get a word in edgewise.
"I’m done! Here, take a look." Uncle Sang passed the phone to Sang Xia, who eagerly accepted it as Sang Yu and Sang Jie crowded around her.
"Wow! Sister-in-law is really beautiful!" Sang Jie exclaimed, and both Sang Yu and Sang Xia nodded in agreement. Their brother's girlfriend was indeed stunning, a striking beauty with bold features, the kind that turned heads, perfectly matching their cousin. The Sang family was known for their good looks; Sang Qing was also quite handsome, with delicate features that made him a charming young man.
