Sang's father glanced at his watch. Was it early? Not really; it was just past nine.
Lu Jingzhi gently patted Sang Yu's arm, took a deep breath, and looked into Sang's father's eyes as he said, "Uncle, my name is... I am Lu Jingzhi." He appeared calm, but the tight grip of his fists revealed the truth of his nerves.
"Calm my foot! Who stays calm when meeting their future father-in-law for the first time, especially after having offended him and his family so badly before? It's a miracle I'm not sweating bullets right now." But he had to hold it together; he couldn’t let his girlfriend see him panic. Even if he was pretending to be calm, he had to maintain that facade. But wait, wouldn’t that just make his girlfriend more anxious?
"Lu Jingzhi?" Sang's father's expression darkened instantly. Had he heard that right? He turned to Sang Yu. Did she say her name was Lu Jingzhi? That name was all too familiar to him—the one that had nearly caused his daughter’s demise. He would never forget it.
Sang Yu trembled under Sang's father's gaze, her lips quivering. For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to speak. Seeing her like this broke Lu Jingzhi's heart; he quickly pulled her behind him to shield her from Sang's father's scrutiny.
At that moment, Sang's father ’s eyes roamed over Lu Jingzhi without restraint. To be honest, Lu Jingzhi was incredibly nervous. What had he been thinking back then?!
"Sang Yu, come here!" Sang's father commanded, locking eyes with Lu Jingzhi.
When Sang Yu didn’t move, he shouted again, "Come here!!!" This was the first time in her life that Sang's father had raised his voice at her.
Lu Jingzhi couldn’t bear to see Sang Yu being reprimanded. As soon as Sang's father opened his mouth again, he was cut off. "Shut up!"
Sang Yu slowly approached Sang's father ’s side. He looked at her and asked firmly, "Tell me, is he the Lu Jingzhi?"
Sang Yu lowered her head and remained silent. "Speak!!!" Sang's father roared.
"Uncle, please don’t be angry," Sang Yu pleaded.
Sang's father shot a furious glare at Lu Jingzhi and barked, "You shut your mouth! I’m not talking to you."
"Sang Yu, I’ll ask you one more time: is he the Lu Jingzhi?"
Sang Yu nodded slowly and choked out, "Yes."
Sang's father took a deep breath; he felt his blood pressure spike and struggled to catch his breath. "You... you..." He was so enraged that words failed him.
Seeing her father in such a state frightened Sang Yu; she cried out, "Dad, I’m sorry!"
"Uncle, please don’t blame Sang Yu; it’s all my fault!" Lu Jingzhi interjected desperately. He had wanted to confront this man for seven years; fate had brought him right to his doorstep—he couldn’t be blamed for that.
"Ah!" The sudden movement from Sang's father startled Sang Yu.
"It’s your fault!"
"If not you, then who?!"
"I’ve wanted to hit you for seven years!"
"And you dare show up here?!"
Sang's father's fists fell upon Lu Jingzhi like a torrential storm, fueled by seven years of pent-up frustration that left him merciless in his assault.
“Dad, stop! Please stop!” Sang Yu cried out as she finally came to her senses.
But Sang's father had lost all reason. The thought of his daughter being deceived once again by this scoundrel ignited a fire within him, and he was determined to settle old scores.
“Mom! Mom! Mom! Come out quickly! Dad, please stop! Stop! Wuwuwu…” Sang Yu was now sobbing uncontrollably, fear gripping her heart.
Both Sang Yu and Sang Xia heard her cries and rushed out of the house.
“What’s going on? What happened? Why are you fighting?” Sang Yu exclaimed as she stepped outside, only to see Sang's father attacking a young man with punches and kicks. After so many years of marriage, she had never seen Sang's father engage in a fight; how could he resort to violence now? What if he hurt himself?
Fortunately, the young man did not retaliate, and Sang Yu breathed a sigh of relief. With his aging limbs, if Sang's father were to get injured, it would bring untold suffering.
