Sang Yu felt that she needed someone to share her joy with at that moment, so she picked up her phone and called Lin Yue, eager to share the news with her friend. However, when she called, no one answered. Just as she was about to hang up, Lin Yue's voice came through the phone, slightly breathless. "Hey, Sang Xiaoyu, you finally remembered to call me."
"Sounds like you’re the one who should be calling," Sang Yu replied. It was true that they hadn’t been in touch much lately; it had only been a quick call here and there.
"Hehe, look at that, what a coincidence! We’re both light-hearted friends; isn’t that why we’re friends?"
Upon hearing Lin Yue's words, Sang Yu couldn't help but laugh. "Alright then, we’re evenly matched; let’s not point fingers at each other."
"What have you been up to? You sound a bit out of breath."
"Oh, I just finished running." Lin Yue pushed away the hand of her boyfriend, Sheng Yi, who was playfully bothering her and shot him a glare.
"Running? Why are you running in the middle of the day?" But Sang Yu was too excited at that moment to think deeply about it. "I called you today because I wanted to tell you some news."
"News? Is it yours or mine?"
"Mine."
"Oh, are you getting married?" Lin Yue replied casually, clearly distracted by her boyfriend.
"What?! Little Yue Yue, you could start a fortune-telling booth with how well you guessed that!" Sang Yu exclaimed in shock.
Little did she know, Lin Yue was even more shocked. She quickly pushed Sheng Yan'an off her and sat up on the bed. "Wait! Are you serious? You’re getting married already? Are you pregnant?"
"I'm not pregnant! What are you thinking?" Sang Yu's face turned red. They hadn’t even been intimate yet; how could she be pregnant? "And we’re engaged, not married."
"Oh come on! Being engaged is just a step away from marriage! But wow, you two are moving fast! How long have you been together before starting to talk about marriage?"
"I didn’t expect it either! I don’t even know how it happened; my head is still spinning."
"Did Lu Jing propose to you?"
"Uh, no."
"Then how did this engagement come about?"
"Well, my dad found out about us. You know how he feels about Lu Jing—he doesn’t like him at all. So Lu Jing wanted to show his sincerity and suggested getting married."
Lin Yue laughed. "Your dad’s impression of Lu Jing is more than just dislike; he nearly wanted to stab him!"
"How did your dad find out about you two? What happened? You have to tell me!" Lin Yue was now eagerly wanting to hear all the juicy details.
So Sang Yu recounted how her father discovered their relationship and how Tian Lu Jing came over with his family to apologize and even brought a betrothal gift for her.
"Oh my goodness, Sang Xiaoyu! You’ve suddenly become a rich woman! A bride price of six hundred sixty-six thousand, plus a house, three shops, and so many pieces of jewelry! What kind of divine mother-in-law is this? We must get married! No one can stop us!"
On the other end of the phone, Sang Yu rolled her eyes. "I'm not after their stuff."
"Yes, we are all about love, Sang Xiaoyu. We’ve never cared for material possessions."
"Get lost! She’s not a goddess; how could she not care about material things? It’s just that she doesn’t prioritize them as much."
"Seriously, Sang Xiaoyu, Lu Jing has really handled this like a man this time."
