He had just instructed his assistant to buy something for Sang Yu after learning that her foot was uncomfortable. Lu Jingzhi took out a pair of white sneakers from the shoebox. "You won't be wearing high heels anymore; put these on."
"This... isn't it inappropriate? We still have guests to entertain," Sang Yu said, though her gaze lingered on the white sneakers, reluctant to look away.
Seeing Sang Yu like this made Lu Jingzhi want to laugh. "It's fine; they won't mind."
"Then, should I wear them?" Sang Yu seemed to be asking for Lu Jingzhi's approval.
"Yes," Lu Jingzhi decided for her.
He squatted down and helped Sang Yu put on the shoes. "Try them on and see if they fit. If not, we can have Chen Assistant get you another pair."
Sang Yu stood up and walked a few steps, her face lighting up with a smile as she approached Lu Jingzhi. "They fit perfectly; no need to change. These shoes are so comfortable! Who invented high heels? They look good, but they are such a pain."
"Do you think it's too ugly?" Sang Yu asked with some concern. Wearing a qipao on top and sneakers on the bottom, she felt like she might be the first person to try such a combination.
Lu Jingzhi shook his head. "It doesn't look bad at all." He was being honest; while it might seem mismatched, it wasn't unattractive.
Chen Assistant watched the entire exchange in astonishment. He knew very well how Lu Jingzhi usually behaved, and he was surprised to see him act this way in front of his girlfriend—no, wait! It should be fiancée now. It seemed that Lu Jingzhi was truly smitten with her.
However, she was indeed worth it. Chen Assistant discreetly observed Sang Yu, who appeared expressionless but was secretly filled with curiosity.
The boss's wife is truly beautiful! The qipao accentuated her graceful figure, her face serene, and her eyes clear—innocent yet alluring. Uh-oh, maybe I shouldn't describe the boss's wife like that; in any case, in his heart, she was nothing less than a goddess.
"Xiao Chen, if there's nothing else, you can head back to the company," Lu Jingzhi said suddenly, startling Xiao Chen.
"Okay, Lu Zong." Xiao Chen relaxed only after realizing Lu Jingzhi wasn't looking at him and quickly left the room, closing the door behind him with a swift motion.
Once Chen Assistant was gone, Lu Jingzhi sat down in a chair and pulled Sang Yu onto his lap. The sudden movement startled her. "What are you doing? You scared me!" She playfully slapped his shoulder, though her light touch barely registered on him.
Lu Jingzhi wrapped his left arm around Sang Yu's slender waist and gently pulled her closer until their foreheads touched. "Darling, you look so beautiful!" His breath brushed against her face, causing her cheeks to flush.
Before he could kiss her soft lips—something he had wanted to do since the first moment he saw her—Sang Yu suddenly covered his mouth with her hand.
Lu Jingzhi looked at her with a pleading expression. "Why not?" His words were muffled by her hand.
"My makeup will smudge!" She protested. The makeup artist had spent an hour perfecting it, and she couldn't bear to ruin it. Besides, they were still at the hotel; who knew if someone might barge in unexpectedly?
Lu Jingzhi gently removed Sang Yu's hand from his mouth and took a deep breath. "Alright, I'll let you off this time." Then he raised an eyebrow and smirked playfully as he leaned closer to whisper in her ear, "But tonight, you have to make it up to me; you have to listen to everything I say." His voice was low and husky, sending shivers down Sang Yu's spine. Thoughts of what might happen later made her suddenly lower her head—she couldn't think about that! This man was trying to seduce her! It was so unfair!
Lu Jingzhi looked at Sang Yu, whose neck was flushed red, and couldn't help but burst into laughter.
