"Hey, have you arrived?" Sang Yu asked as she packed her bag while calling Lu Jingzhi.
"I'm here. Come down, I'm at the usual spot," Lu Jingzhi replied, tapping on the steering wheel, his Bluetooth earpiece connected to Sang Yu.
Lu Jingzhi parked a bit further from the school gate. There was no choice; it was rush hour, and the area was filled with cars picking up students. Every time he came to pick up Sang Yu during this busy time, he would stop at this same spot.
"Yu Guo," Sang Yu called out to her classmate Yu Guoguo, who was still in class.
"Bye! See you tomorrow!" Yu Guoguo replied. She still had some papers to grade and didn't want to take them home, so she stayed behind while watching her classmates leave one by one. Yu Guoguo bent over her desk and continued writing furiously.
Sang Yu navigated through the crowd and finally reached Lu Jingzhi's parking spot after what felt like a long walk.
The temperature was gradually rising, and the weather was getting warmer. Sang Yu wore a light apricot-colored coat and found herself sweating a little by the time she reached him.
"Hey, how about we eat out today?" she suggested.
"Sure! What do you want to eat?" Lu Jingzhi asked. Usually, Sang Yu cooked dinner, but although he wanted to learn, after trying once, she firmly told him not to touch the stove again and only let him help out a little.
"Treasure life; everyone has a responsibility!" Sang Yu joked.
That's right. Since Sang Yu's lease wasn't up yet, Lu Jingzhi had moved into her place. As for his own apartment, he wanted to renovate it a bit; it was mostly decorated in black, white, and gray, which wasn't suitable for a future marital home.
Coincidentally, his company specialized in renovations, making things much easier. He decided on the changes, and the next day, workers from his company showed up at his old place.
Lu Jingzhi used the excuse of not having anywhere else to stay to move into Sang Yu's cozy little nest. She had no reason to refuse him; after all, they were practically getting married. It would be silly for her to turn him away when others might think she was being unreasonable.
"What do you feel like eating?" he asked. "As a man, of course I should follow what my woman wants."
"How about Western food?" Sang Yu thought for a moment and said. "I haven't had steak in a long time; we could go for that."
"Great! Let's have steak." Lu Jingzhi began searching for nearby Western restaurants on his phone. He rarely ate at such places; two big men sitting across from each other cutting steak felt awkward just thinking about it.
He found a restaurant with decent reviews and set the navigation. It was about seven or eight kilometers away—manageable enough.
However, due to rush hour traffic, they ended up stuck on the road and arrived at the restaurant more than forty minutes later.
"Welcome!"
"Excuse me, how many people are in your party?" the host asked.
"Two," Lu Jingzhi replied.
"Alright, sir and madam, this way please."
The server led them to a table by the window. "Is this table alright?"
Lu Jingzhi glanced at Sang Yu, who nodded in response. She liked sitting by the window so she could see outside.
"Here you go. This is our menu. Please take a look," the waiter said, handing the menu to Lu Jingzhi and Sang Yu after they were seated. "If you need anything, just call for me."
"Alright, thank you!"
"You're welcome!" The waiter replied politely, bowing slightly before moving on to attend to other customers.
