“How is the wedding preparation going?” Sister Sang asked Sang Yu.
“Well, it should be about ready,” Sang Yu replied uncertainly, as she herself was not quite sure.
These days, she often wondered if she was the most relaxed bride. Lu Jingzhi had only asked her what style of wedding she liked, and after that, he took care of everything else, allowing her to simply wait to become a bride. So, she really had no idea how far along the preparations were.
Lu Jingzhi had been chatting with Sang's grandpa, but upon hearing Sister Sang's question, he turned and said, “Auntie, the wedding preparations are nearly complete. The venue has already been chosen, and we’ll just need to set it up a few days before the event. You won’t need to drive; I’ll arrange for a car to pick you up a day in advance. I’ve also booked the hotel.”
Getting married would definitely be different from their engagement. Not only would Sang Family attend, but relatives and friends from Sang Family would also be there. Driving would be inconvenient and a bit far; he was concerned about potential mishaps. So he had already planned to rent a bus to bring all of Sang Family’s relatives and friends together.
Sang's grandmother and the others were pleased to hear this and their impression of Lu Jingzhi grew better and better. Not bad at all; their Da Bao certainly had good taste!
The last time they met, Lu Jingzhi and Sang Yu had been busy all day, so they hadn’t interacted much with Sang's grandpa and Sang's grandmother, leaving them with little understanding of Lu Jingzhi.
After today’s meal, they had gained a preliminary understanding of this grandson-in-law (nephew-in-law). Lu Jingzhi displayed great poise and composure, which significantly increased the elders' fondness for him. Even Uncle Sang and Sang San Shu, who had previously been somewhat resistant, were now smiling broadly at him—a stark contrast to their cold demeanor when he first arrived.
“Xiao Lu, you’re quite impressive! Uncle San thinks highly of you,” Uncle Sang said with squinted eyes and flushed cheeks, his speech slightly slurred as if he were drunk.
Sister Sang couldn’t help but feel angry at Uncle Sang’s behavior. This man truly lacked discretion; getting drunk on the first visit of his niece's fiancé was utterly embarrassing! But she had to suppress her anger for now. She shot Uncle Sang a glare, thinking she would settle the score later at home.
Uncle Sang shivered under Sister Sang’s glare; it seemed he had faced enough reprimands at home that he now felt intimidated even when drunk.
“Xiao Lu, your uncle is happy you’re here. Don’t mind him; let Da Bao take you to rest for a bit while I see Uncle San home.”
“Alright, Auntie. How about I take Uncle San back?” Lu Jingzhi suggested with clear eyes that showed no sign of intoxication.
“No need! I’ll take Uncle San home; you should rest,” Sister Sang insisted as she helped Uncle Sang up.
“Da Bao, Xiao Lu, we’re leaving now. Mom, we’re heading out,” Sang San Shen and Sang San Shu announced as they departed.
Once everyone left, only Sang's grandpa, Sang's grandmother, Sang Yu, and Lu Jingzhi remained in the house.
“Da Bao, I’ve tidied up your room for you. I aired out the blankets yesterday. You can let Xiao Lu stay in your room while you sleep in your parents’ room. You both should get some rest after such a long drive.”
“Thank you so much, Grandma,” Lu Jingzhi replied politely.
“It’s no trouble at all! I’m just happy you’re here. Come by whenever you have time; I look forward to seeing you both often. As I get older, I enjoy the hustle and bustle more and more. The kids have grown up and are busy with their own lives; they hardly come back a few times a year.”
“Of course, Grandma! I’ll definitely come back with Da Bao whenever we can,” Lu Jingzhi assured her sincerely. He genuinely appreciated the environment here—the fresh air and beautiful scenery—thinking that once they were married and had children, it would be like a vacation where they could also spend time with the elders.
“Good! When you come back next time, I’ll make sure to prepare delicious food for you both. Now go get some sleep!”
