Sang Yu stopped by the supermarket after work to buy some vegetables that Lin Yue loved, along with a bottle of red wine and some beer. Looking at the drinks in the cart, Sang Yu thought it should be enough for Lin Yue.
Knock, knock, knock.
Not long after Sang Yu returned home, there was a knock at the door.
"You’re here quite early," Sang Yu said as she opened the door to find Lin Yue standing outside, looking dejected.
"Yeah, I came right after work," Lin Yue replied weakly.
"Why don’t you sit down and watch some TV while I cook? I just got back from the supermarket myself."
"Okay," Lin Yue said as he plopped down on the sofa but didn’t turn on the TV; he just sat there in silence.
Seeing Lin Yue like this, Sang Yu felt that something was off. She had planned to start cooking right away, but now she wondered if they should talk first.
Lin Yue shook his head. "You go ahead and cook."
"Then you sit for a bit." Sang Yu didn’t argue. It was already past six, and cooking would take at least an hour. They could eat and chat afterward.
Sang Yu prepared four dishes and a soup, all of which were Lin Yue’s favorites. "Do you want red wine or beer?"
"Beer."
The two of them sat facing each other on the carpet.
"Let’s talk. What’s going on?" Sang Yu opened a can of beer and handed it to Lin Yue before opening one for herself. She thought it should be fine to have one can by herself.
Lin Yue took a few swigs from the beer before speaking. "Sheng Yan'an has a fiancée. I want to break up with him; I won’t be a mistress!"
Sang Yu replied, "It’s definitely frustrating when the legitimate girlfriend suddenly turns into a mistress."
"Who says you’re a mistress? Just tell me who it is; I’ll help you vent." Sang Yu felt angry for her friend being wronged.
"Who else could it be? His fiancée, of course." Lin Yue sighed and took another swig of beer.
"Have you met this woman?"
"Hah! I saw her! I ran into her at his clinic," Lin Yue said through gritted teeth. "If it weren’t for her showing up there, I would have remained in the dark."
"You have no idea about his fiancée; she’s just a green tea b*tch mixed with a white lotus. Every other word is ‘Yan'an gege,’ and her voice is so annoying it could drive anyone crazy!" Just thinking about that woman made Lin Yue feel sick.
"You need to tell me how this fiancée came out of nowhere. When did he hide his engagement from you? Sheng Doctor doesn’t seem like a scumbag. Give me the details." She had met Sheng Yan'an a few times; he looked decent enough and gave off a reliable vibe. Plus, she could tell he was serious about Lin Yue—after all, one’s true feelings can’t be hidden in their eyes.
He said that it was his grandfather who arranged a betrothal for him when he was young, to his grandfather's friend's granddaughter. However, they moved to another city many years ago, and gradually lost contact. Recently, that girl came looking for him, and only then did his grandfather tell him about it. So, he only found out recently and was afraid I would be angry, so he didn't dare to tell me. If it weren't for the fact that I ran into that girl while looking for him at his clinic, who knows how much longer he would have kept it from me.
Thinking about this made Lin Yue angry. How could he keep something like this a secret?
Sang Yu listened to Lin Yue's words and breathed a sigh of relief. As long as it wasn't Sheng Yan'an who was deliberately playing both sides. Knowing her friend's fiery temper, she figured Sheng Yan'an was probably afraid that if he told her, she would cause a scene and threaten to break up.
"What did the doctor say?"
He said to give him some time; he would handle it. I told him to contact me once he sorted things out. At this point, Lin Yue's tears began to fall. "But Sang Sang, I really like him. Yet now, I don’t know if they will have a future together."
