Huang Xiang stepped forward to speak, her voice trembling with unease. "Rao Jie, we can settle this privately, right? You weren't hurt, were you? Please don't press charges. He's your older brother and a friend; we can't let this escalate. Our family's reputation is at stake."
Huang Xiang stammered, "Xiao Hu was just drunk; your brother didn't mean it. It was an accident. Don't hold it against them; they've already been locked up. You need to get them out quickly."
Seeing Rao Jie staring at them coldly in silence, she quickly turned to Rao Gang and urged, "Old Rao, say something!"
Rao Gang hesitated for a long moment before cautiously addressing Rao Jie. "Jie Jie, your brother did make a mistake. He was confused. Although we don't know exactly what happened, thankfully you're okay. Let's just forget about this. I promise I'll make your brother apologize properly; I'll teach him a lesson for being such a fool."
Rao Jie felt a pang in her heart. She knew her mother was confused, but she didn't expect Rao Gang to say the same thing. She felt incredibly wronged.
Was this really something that could be dismissed with just a word of confusion? What if the police hadn't arrived in time? What if she hadn't been chatting with Wu Xin at that moment? What would have happened then?
"Parents, if their plan had succeeded, I might have committed suicide the next day. Would you still think it was just a small matter?" Rao Jie couldn't help but ask.
Huang Xiang quickly replied in distress, "How can you talk like that? You're fine now, aren't you? What kind of sister sues her own brother? Don't you want our family to be okay? Are you trying to ruin us? Jie Jie, listen to your mother; don't act impulsively! You can't undo things once they're done!"
Rao Gang struggled to meet Rao Jie's gaze but couldn't bear to watch his son go to prison either.
"I just found out that if you really press charges, your brother and Xiao Hu could end up in jail for one or two years at least. They're still young; we can't let them carry such a stain on their record. Whatever grievances you have, you can express them however you want, but this matter can't be made public!"
The Hu family parents chimed in urgently, "Yes, Rao Jie, we can compensate you; we can arrange a job for you—anything you want! Just please don't press charges against Hu Ze! He really likes you; he just lost control after drinking."
At this point, Mother Hu couldn't help but complain, "And the main culprit is your brother! He was the one who drugged her and used the key to open her door and send my son in. My son is innocent! Huang Xiang immediately grew anxious upon hearing this. "You can't say that! My son has always listened to yours; he might have been influenced by him! Besides... besides, the police just said that drunken behavior doesn't count as an offense; there's video evidence."

The words from the other family instantly flushed the faces of the Rao family parents with shame. The strange looks and whispers from those around them made them feel utterly humiliated, as if they had been slapped repeatedly in public.
