"If you are seeing this video, it means I may have been harmed."
Zhou Huifang's image trembled slightly in front of the camera. "Yuer, Mommy needs to tell you something."
The timestamp on the recording showed it was August 14, ten years ago, the day before Zhou Huifang's death.
"The problems with the theater are far more serious than I imagined." She lowered her voice.
"It's not just a simple case of embezzlement. Li Meigui, she is using the theater for money laundering. Behind it is..."
The screen suddenly cut out for a few seconds, and when it returned, Zhou Huifang's expression was even more grave.
"I have collected evidence, right here..." She glanced over her shoulder.
"Someone is coming. Remember, Mommy loves you. If anything happens to me, go find Li Mei; she knows the truth. Remember the code: 'The mirror person will always reveal their true face.'"
The video ended there.
Zhou Yu tightened his grip on my arm. "What does this mean? Is there someone behind Li Meigui?"
I looked thoughtfully at Li Mei. "What do you know?"
Li Mei sighed. "Knowing too much can be a burden."
She took an encrypted hard drive out of the safe. "This is what Zhou Huifang truly wanted to protect."
Just then, my walkie-talkie crackled to life. "Lin, suspicious individuals have been found outside the building and are already under control."
"Bring them up." I signaled for SWAT to guard Li Meigui and then turned to the others.
"This case is not that simple. Zhou Huifang discovered not just money laundering, but a criminal network spanning over a decade."
The door swung open, and two SWAT officers escorted a man into the room.
When I caught sight of his face, I couldn't help but gasp in shock.
" manager Cheng?" Zhou Yu exclaimed in disbelief.
The man being brought in was none other than the theater's owner, Cheng Jianye.
He still looked impeccably dressed in his suit, but his face was unusually pale.
"You actually came," Li Mei sneered. "Do you remember that night ten years ago?"
Cheng Jianye's gaze swept across the room. "Li Mei, you're smarter than your sister. I've been wondering all these years who has been secretly gathering evidence."
"Since the day Zhou Huifang died," Li Mei replied. "I've been waiting for this moment."
I signaled for the SWAT officers to release Cheng Jianye.
He flexed his wrists and suddenly laughed. "Unfortunately, you’re too late."
His hand shot toward his inner pocket. I instinctively lunged forward, but it was already too late.
"Bang!"
A smoke bomb exploded in the room.
"Protect Zhou Yu!" I shouted, drawing my sidearm.
In the chaos, I heard Cheng Jianye's triumphant voice: "Did you think there was only this one safe?"
Then came the sound of a wall being smashed open. As the smoke cleared, Cheng Jianye had vanished.
But to everyone's astonishment, a hidden compartment had opened in one wall of the Dressing Room.
"This is impossible!" Li Mei Gui suddenly screamed, "That’s my..."
"Your secret hideout?" Li Mei coldly replied.
"I'm sorry, sister. I've been secretly watching you all these years."
We stepped into the hidden compartment, which turned out to be a small room.
A wall covered in monitors displayed surveillance footage from every corner of the theater.
"This is why you always know everything in advance," Zhou Yu realized, "You’ve been monitoring everyone from here!"
Li Mei Gui laughed maniacally: "Yes! Including Zhou Huifang's conversation with Cheng Jianye that night. That foolish woman thought she could report us."
"So you killed her?" Zhou Yu's hands trembled.
"No, it was Cheng Jianye who did it," Li Mei suddenly said, "But the idea came from Rose, right?"
I examined the surveillance equipment and suddenly noticed a detail: "These models are identical to those at the police station."
"What?" Xiao Wang exclaimed in surprise.
I opened the back cover of one of the hosts and found the production number.
After quickly contacting headquarters for verification via the intercom, my expression turned grave.
"This batch of equipment is from the police department's lost inventory three years ago," I said, looking at Li Mei Gui. "Is your background connected to someone inside the police department?"
Just then, Zhou Yu suddenly pointed at one of the screens. "Look! Cheng Jianye is in the underground parking lot!"
But what was even more shocking was the person with him.
"This is impossible..." Li Mei Gui collapsed onto the floor.
On the screen, a man in police uniform was conversing with Cheng Jianye.
The man's rank was clearly that of a Director.
"I see now," I tightened my grip on my sidearm. "No wonder this case has dragged on for ten years."
Li Mei Gui quickly walked to a computer. "Fortunately, I was prepared."
Her fingers flew across the keyboard. "I've already transmitted the backup."
"Where did you send it?" I asked.
She revealed a mysterious smile. "To every media outlet. They can't delete it now."
Suddenly, the lights in the room began to flicker, and an alarm blared.
"Not good!" Xiao Wang rushed to the door. "They've activated the self-destruct sequence!"
I looked at the monitor, and Cheng Jianye and Chief Inspector had already vanished.
But worse still, the surveillance footage showed that the entire underground parking lot was being flooded.
"They want to destroy the evidence..." Li Mei Gui murmured.
I grabbed the walkie-talkie. "Headquarters, immediately seal off all exits! Repeat, seal off all exits!"
But all I heard in response was the crackling of static.
All communication devices had been cut off.
"Do you remember what you said?" Li Mei suddenly turned to Zhou Yu. "The mirror always reveals the true face."
She opened her phone and pulled up a video.
It was a private surveillance recording of the Chief Inspector.
"This is the last piece of evidence your mother left behind."
