Ling Xue understood that in order to complete the assigned task, she needed to deepen Xing's feelings for her. She began to take a more proactive approach in their interactions, trying to find topics that interested him. During the movie screening, she skillfully expressed her resonance with the plot and occasionally sought comfort from him, making him feel needed. After the movie ended, Ling Xue cleverly guided Xing to discuss the film's storyline, and their conversation became more natural and profound.
As night fell, the sky was adorned with countless twinkling stars, as if a handful of dazzling diamonds had been scattered across a dark canvas.
Xing suddenly suggested, "How about we grab some late-night snacks?"
Ling Xue readily agreed. They went to a cozy and comfortable restaurant where the soft lighting created a pleasant atmosphere, making it feel like a quiet haven. Ling Xue ordered some of Xing's favorite foods, such as skewers, fried noodles, and refreshing drinks.
Throughout the meal, she carefully observed Xing's preferences, timely offering him napkins or drinks to ensure he enjoyed his meal. She noticed that he particularly liked the sauce on the skewers, so she ordered a few extra for him and gently wiped the sauce from the corners of his mouth.
Whenever Xing took a sip of his drink, Ling Xue would ask with concern if he needed ice or wanted to try a different flavor, ensuring he could enjoy the best taste. Her attentiveness and thoughtfulness made Xing feel an immense warmth and satisfaction.
Ling Xue's small gestures made Xing feel cherished, and his affection for her gradually increased. He couldn't help but feel a warm sensation in his heart as he noticed her kindness and consideration.
After dinner, Ling Xue suggested taking a walk to aid digestion. They strolled under the night sky, with a gentle breeze brushing against them and the coolness of the evening air surrounding them. Ling Xue softly shared snippets of her life—funny stories from work and small troubles—opening up to Xing without reservation. This made him feel like he was getting to know her better, as if stepping into her inner world.
In such an atmosphere, Xing's feelings for Ling Xue finally broke through a barrier and reached new heights. He realized that he increasingly enjoyed being with her; her gentleness and sincerity made him feel incredibly comfortable and at ease.
Ling Xue knew she was one step closer to completing her task. However, she also realized that in order for Xing to truly fall in love with her, they needed more genuine communication and time together. Love wasn't something that could be achieved overnight; it required slow cultivation and nurturing. She was willing to invest time and patience to let their relationship grow through mutual companionship.
After dinner, Xing offered to walk Ling Xue home. It was then that she noticed how late it had gotten. He cleverly pointed out that the school dormitory gate was already closed and cautiously asked if she wanted to stay at a hotel for the night in two separate rooms.
Ling Xue's face flushed instantly as she thought to herself that she only wanted to complete a task—not put herself at risk.
Xing noticed her reaction and secretly rejoiced at the thought of having such an exquisite beauty fall for him so quickly. "Liu Ting," he thought smugly, "you'll regret leaving me."
Ling Xue checked Xing's feelings towards her; they had significantly improved. She decided not to overthink it anymore. "Today I’m really happy," she said earnestly. "But I'm not someone who rushes into things; I want us to take our time."
"Xing," she continued softly, "I like you too; please don’t give up on us."
Then disregarding her own reservations, she leaned in and kissed him lightly on the lips. Checking again on his feelings revealed they had increased further; the system even prompted that her task was completed.
Panicking slightly, Ling Xue quickly pushed Xing away. "I have something else to do today," she said before dashing off like the wind.
