As Gu Si Yi walked beside Wu Yunyun, he noticed the flowers she held in her hand.
He looked at her and pointed to the flowers, "Are these for me?"
Wu Yunyun suddenly remembered that she was holding something. She quickly extended the flowers towards Gu Si Yi, saying, "Here you go."
However, Gu Si Yi did not take them; instead, he pulled Wu Yunyun into his embrace.
Her heart raced so fast that she felt dizzy. She took several deep breaths to calm herself down. Slowly, she began to relax as she inhaled the faint minty scent on him.
Noticing that she seemed unwell, Gu Si Yi loosened his grip slightly. "Are you feeling uncomfortable?"
Wu Yunyun shook her head. "No, it's just that you suddenly hugged me, and I'm not used to it."
Gu Si Yi looked at her flushed face and smiled. "Then we should hug more often."
Wu Yunyun didn't respond; instead, she tightened her hold on him, gripping the hem of his shirt. She softly asked, "Are you okay?"
"Yes, just hold onto me," he replied.
Wu Yunyun felt a bit incredulous. She couldn't understand how important she had become to him.
"What are you thinking about?" Gu Si Yi asked when he noticed she had been silent for a while.
"I'm thinking about how to make you happier," Wu Yunyun said without hesitation, and immediately regretted it, wishing she could bite her tongue off.
Gu Si Yi cupped her face and asked, "Is that really what you think?"
Looking into his deep eyes, they were now less than five centimeters apart. Under his gaze, she gently nodded.
In the next moment, Gu Si Yi's lips brushed against hers—softly and fleetingly.
Wu Yunyun held her breath, staring wide-eyed at him.
"See? I feel a bit better now," he said.
After hearing Gu Si Yi's words, Wu Yunyun didn't know how to respond and blurted out, "You're being a rogue!" before running to her room.
Gu Si Yi stood in place for a long time. Watching her flustered escape made his heart race unexpectedly.
Though he had experienced this kind of excitement with others before, he couldn't help but smile at how this ordinary girl had captivated him so completely.
Because of that kiss, Wu Yunyun couldn't sleep. The next day, she showed up at school with two big dark circles under her eyes, and was warned by Wu's Mother that if she stayed up late again, her phone would be confiscated before bedtime.
Wu Yunyun trudged through the day, feeling sluggish during class. During a break, Yu Chan shook her awake from where she had been dozing at her desk and leaned in to ask, "Wu Yunyun, what did you do last night? Why are you so tired today?"
Wu Yunyun turned her head away and replied, "Just leave me alone for now; I need to catch up on some sleep."
Later, during gym class in the afternoon, Yu Chan learned about the situation between Wu Yunyun and Gu Si Yi. "It was just a hug; what's the big deal?"
Wu Yunyun lowered her head uncomfortably. To avoid embarrassment, she didn't mention the kiss between them to Yu Chan.
"Honestly, you're too naive. Even if it's your first love, your adjustment period is way too long."
"Is it?"
Yu Chan nodded vigorously. "And I feel like you act so silly around him. You're really smart, but when you're with him, it's like you've turned into a different person."
Faced with her friend's blunt observation, Wu Yunyun didn't know how to respond. Perhaps this was what they meant online when they said that loving someone can make you lose yourself.
"I can understand it though. After all, there's such a huge gap between you and Gu Si Yi. Yes, you're his girlfriend now and you like him, but you shouldn't always think about what might happen. You'll only regret it when you actually lose him."
The word "lose" struck Wu Yunyun deeply; it felt like a heavy blow to her heart. Yes, she had been worried about losing him all along, which was why she hadn't dared to invest herself fully.
Could it be that knowing the end of a relationship in advance meant she couldn't give it her all?
