When Wu Yunyun came out of Gu Si Yi's room, she happened to be seen by Zhu Lan.
Zhu Lan walked straight up to her and curiously asked, "Wu Yunyun, why did you come out of the young master's room so late? And why is your face so red?"
Wu Yunyun quickly covered her face. "Is it? You must be mistaken!"
Zhu Lan rolled her eyes. "It couldn't be more obvious."
Feeling guilty, Wu Yunyun couldn't find a retort and hurriedly bid her farewell. Zhu Lan watched Wu Yunyun's retreating figure, her eyes sparkling with gossip. She was certain something was going on!
Three days later, many people in the Gu Family had heard about Wu Yunyun's close relationship with the young master, with some even claiming that they had rekindled an old flame. A week later, stories about her and Gu Si Yi had circulated in several versions.
At first, Wu Yunyun didn't want to pay attention to it, but eventually, Wu's Mother directly told her what she had heard.
"Oh dear, you have no idea how outrageous the rumors are! Some say you're the young master's lover and that you returned just to climb the social ladder; others say you two have secretly registered your marriage, and that's why he has rejected so many suitors—because he's already married!"
Wu Yunyun was shocked and turned pale. "Mom, please don't listen to those rumors! My relationship with the young master is purely professional; how could I develop feelings for my superior?"
After she spoke, Wu's Mother looked at her suspiciously. If she hadn't reacted so strongly, Wu's Mother wouldn't have doubted her. In her mind, she never would have been so loud in refuting her mother.
"Something's off here!" Wu's Mother said cautiously. "You aren't really together with the young master, are you?"
Before Wu Yunyun could respond, Wu's Mother raised a hand to stop her. "Wait a moment; let me prepare myself first!" She took a few deep breaths. "Okay, now you can speak."
"I really don't have anything going on with the young master," Wu Yunyun insisted. "We're like two parallel lines; it's impossible for us to intersect. Besides, I'm about to participate in a variety show—a dating show."
"What? Wu Yunyun, what kind of show are you talking about?" Wu's Mother was even more agitated now as she grabbed Wu Yunyun's hand. "What’s really going on?"
"Mom, just take it easy," Wu Yunyun said as she poured a glass of warm water for her and handed it over. After Wu's Mother calmed down a bit, Wu Yunyun explained about the variety show she would be participating in.
After hearing this, concern washed over Wu's Mother's face. "But that's still a show! Are the people there trustworthy? What if they deceive your feelings? Plus, once you're exposed to the public eye, any little thing you do will be magnified a thousand times."
Finally, Wu's Mother held onto Wu Yunyun's hands tightly. "I just hope you can live a normal life without any complications. If participating in this variety show is just for some money, then I really don't think it's necessary."
Wu Yunyun understood her mother's fears regarding the unknown. However, since Yu Chan was someone she trusted, she felt reassured. With all the strange rumors circulating about the villa, she believed that the best way to dispel them was to appear on a variety show and meet other guys.
It was best if Gu Si Yi didn’t find out about these rumors; after all, he didn’t want anything to do with her. Wu Yunyun informed Wu's Mother that this variety show was recommended by Yu Chan and that she had already promised to participate, so there was no turning back.
Although Wu's Mother was reluctant, she understood that one must keep their promises. Therefore, she didn’t press her daughter further.
