Wu Yunyun clutched the hem of her long dress, stepping cautiously into the center of the hall where the dance floor lay. The dim lighting made it difficult to discern anyone's figure, but she noticed that pairs had already formed, while two others remained in place, waiting.
She moved to a corner, swaying gently to the music, lost in her thoughts. Suddenly, she spotted another gentleman entering the venue. He was impeccably dressed in a suit, his face obscured by a silver mask that concealed his features. However, judging by his physique, he seemed to match the description provided by the production team—a very handsome young man.
The sound of his polished shoes echoed softly, almost drowning out the music. Wu Yunyun felt a rush of nerves as she observed him drawing closer. In a moment of panic, she took advantage of a shift in the lighting and quietly slipped to the other side, turning her back to the dance floor.
Before she could steady her racing heart, she was drawn in again by the sound of his footsteps—he was getting even closer. Her mind raced as she tried to hold her breath to diminish her presence, but the real sensation on her shoulder told her he was indeed approaching her.
“Excuse me, beautiful lady,” he said. “May I have this dance?”
A jolt ran through Wu Yunyun at his voice. She quickly dismissed her thoughts—no, it couldn’t be him. Turning around in a fluster, she inadvertently placed her hand in his, only to have him grasp it firmly.
She felt his large hand wrap around her waist as she began to follow his lead. Several times during their waltz, she stumbled and accidentally stepped on his foot. Her clumsy attempts at dancing were remnants from her college physical education classes; back then, she had barely managed to earn a passing grade and had since forgotten most of what she learned.
Worry crept into her mind—by the end of this dance, would his feet be bruised from her missteps?
Gu Si Yi held her close; his grip was firm yet gentle against her waist. The sensation of his touch was incredibly real—delicate and soft—as he controlled their movements while leaving subtle impressions on her skin.
Suddenly, the lights above flickered off, and startled gasps filled the hall. Wu Yunyun jumped in surprise and before she could utter a sound, the man beside her pulled her into his embrace.
“Don’t be afraid,” he reassured her.
Gripping his suit tightly, Wu Yunyun felt a surge of anxiety. If their first encounter was meant to be serendipitous, how could there be so many coincidences? She sensed his hand gently patting her back; the warmth between them stirred ripples within her heart.
Within seconds, the lights flickered back on. Wu Yunyun quickly extricated herself from his hold and thanked him hurriedly. Now she found herself calculating how to navigate this socially awkward meeting.
She worried that in his eyes, she must appear like an impoverished girl—a ridiculous sight for someone like her to be present at such an event. All her focus shifted to how she might explain herself to him, leaving no room for thoughts about why he had come here in the first place.
As the music faded, the production team brightened the lights. A Yang stepped forward and addressed everyone, "Please remove your masks. Our fourth male guest has arrived."
Gu Si Yi was the first to take off his mask. Ignoring the others, he focused solely on Wu Yunyun beside him.
Wu Yunyun soon followed suit and removed her mask. Gu Si Yi gazed at the girl before him. She wore heavy makeup that accentuated her delicate features, and her lips glistened as if coated in honey, making it hard for anyone to resist daydreaming.
Wu Yunyun opened her mouth, intending to call him "Young Master," but considering the occasion, she swallowed the words before they could escape. Calling him Gu Si Yi was out of the question.
Suddenly, she recalled that when the production team introduced him, they mentioned he was a university teacher. She slightly bent forward and called out to him in a sweet voice, "Gu Teacher."
Upon hearing this, Gu Si Yi suppressed a smile at the corners of his mouth.
