After finishing the soup dumplings they had bought, Wu Yunyun turned to Gu Si Yi and said, "How about I make you some noodles tonight?"
"Sure." Gu Si Yi's heart skipped a beat for a moment as he agreed.
He recalled that night when he had refused to eat the noodles she prepared. "Did you spend a long time getting ready that day? Besides the bowl of noodles, there must have been something else."
After all, she had asked him in advance how he wanted to spend the evening.
Bringing up the past made Wu Yunyun feel a bit awkward, but it was alright. "This time, no matter how I cook, you have to finish everything because this is my punishment for you."
She wanted to let him know that she could be a little petty.
"Okay." After hearing this, Gu Si Yi felt an inexplicable anticipation for dinner. He knew that her willingness to punish him meant there was a chance for reconciliation.
It was his fault before.
"Gu Si Yi, did you become a university teacher because of me?" Wu Yunyun finally asked the question she had been curious about for a long time.
"Why do you think that?" Gu Si Yi looked at her but hesitated to answer.
"I once mentioned a novel I really liked, and I loved the male character in it."
"Yeah, besides that, I even bought a physical copy to study it thoroughly. But it's too much of a Mary Sue story." He thought both the male and female characters fell in love without any real reason.
"Where's the Mary Sue part?" Wu Yunyun disagreed; she thought it was quite good.
"Well, if you think it's good, that's fine." Gu Si Yi didn't argue back; in fact, he believed that being good doesn't contradict being a Mary Sue.
"I've been studying hard about how men should care for women; it's just that I haven't had the opportunity to show it."
Wu Yunyun frowned as she listened to Gu Si Yi. "You always try to be strong and never tell me what's going on. I don't have any space to help."
After hearing this, Wu Yunyun smiled. In reality, there weren't many situations where he needed to step in personally. Those kidnapping and extortion cases felt too far removed from her life.
"In the future, if something's bothering you, just say it. If you don't tell me, I won't know what you want."
Wu Yunyun nodded and glanced at her phone. The weather forecast said it might rain today.
"Can you pick me up after work? It might rain today, and I don't want to take the subway back."
"Of course, let's go pick out a car this weekend. I should have arranged one for you sooner," he said.
"Don't say that, Gu Si Yi. I would feel burdened," she replied.
"You will always be my wife, and everything I have is yours. What burden could there be?"
Wu Yunyun was once again taken aback; ever since they returned from the restaurant, he seemed like a different person.
"I haven't asked you yet—what a coincidence that you happened to be at the restaurant that day?"
"I heard it from your mother," Gu Si Yi said, angrily tossing the napkin into the trash. "Sun Aunty is your mother; I can't say anything about her, so I have to take it out on you."
"I hope that before long, we can get married."
"Isn't that a bit too fast? I'm not ready yet." Wu Yunyun hadn't expected him to think so far ahead.
"Alright, I'll give you time to prepare. During this time, feel free to test me," Gu Si Yi said, leaning in to kiss her cheek.
"Wu Yunyun, how can you be so adorable? You're like a juicy peach; I just want to take a bite out of you." Gu Si Yi continued to plant kisses on her cheek.
He knew it was unlikely for her to take the initiative at this stage. So it was up to him to be the peacock displaying its feathers!
