Gu Si Yi and Wu Yunyun arrived at the old house together. He took her to the art studio on his floor. After entering the password and pressing his fingerprint, the electronic lock clicked open.
Wu Yunyun looked around at the dusty photographs that filled the room. The most striking one was a photo she had sent him during a difficult time, a picture of her making a face at the camera, which he had perfectly replicated.
As she gazed at that photo, memories flooded back. She remembered wearing an old cotton jacket, feeling insecure, which was why she had sent him that picture. Little did she know that years later, it would evoke such vivid memories in this way.
"Gu Si Yi, I think I want to marry you," Wu Yunyun said, taking his hand. "Have you considered making me your wife?"
"Wu Yunyun, proposals should be left to men!" she teased, wrapping her arms around his waist. "But you’ve been thinking about this for a long time, haven’t you? I’m ready; I want to marry you. What do you say?"
Gu Si Yi gently pecked her lips and looked into her eyes, his irritation melting away. "You said it; no take-backs!"
"Absolutely no regrets! Whoever regrets is a little dog!" Wu Yunyun replied playfully, sticking out her tongue at him.
Gu Si Yi pulled her close and leaned down to kiss her deeply. After a moment, he said, "Let’s go get our marriage certificate tomorrow."
"Okay." Wu Yunyun didn’t want to be apart from him anymore; from now on, they would be together forever.
In the next couple of days leading up to the Qixi Festival, there were many reservations being made. Gu Si Yi chose a date three days later for their marriage registration. Once he selected the date, he realized he hadn’t yet won over Wu's Mother.
However, with money being able to move mountains, Gu Si Yi had his own ways. He asked Zhou Liaosheng to select two apartments in prime locations in Dijing City and put them under Wu Yunyun's name.
In the afternoon, he went to see Wu's Mother with the property deeds in hand.
These days, Wu's Mother had lost a lot of weight due to her quarrel with Wu Yunyun. Even the servants at home no longer treated her well, assigning her the most exhausting tasks. When she saw Gu Si Yi, her expression was far from pleasant; she felt that everything happening to her was because of him.
Gu Si Yi placed the property deeds in front of Wu's Mother and said, "Sun Aunty, you’ve worked hard all your life and deserve to relax. These two properties were meant for you, but since you refused to cooperate with me, I had no choice but to put them under Wu Yunyun's name for now."
Wu's Mother looked at the two property deeds, which were worth a staggering twenty million. However, that was far from what she valued—her reputation.
"Take these back! I’ll tell you this: my daughter Sun Lijuan will never step foot into your Gu Family's door!"
"Sun Aunty," Gu Si Yi replied, "it seems you've thought this over for quite a while but still haven't come to a decision. It appears that your pride is more important than your daughter's happiness."
Wu's Mother was struck by his words, her gaze faltering. "What do you know? I'm doing this for her good. Listen closely, Xiao Gu: as long as I’m here, there’s no chance for you and Wu Yunyun!"
Gu Si Yi took back the property deeds and said, "Sun Aunty, if you're going to be so heartless, then don’t blame me. I will show you what it truly means to lose your reputation. When that time comes, you won’t be here talking to me!"
Having witnessed many scandals in high society, Wu's Mother realized that her power over Gu Si Yi stemmed from him treating her like an elder. In reality, whether she agreed or disagreed didn’t matter to him at all.
Understanding this made Wu's Mother feel as if all her strength had drained away. She had thought that as long as she was alive, she could keep a tight grip on her daughter. But now, it was clear that was impossible.
All she could do was let go.
