Gu Si Yi spent his university years in the UK. During the winter and summer breaks, he interned at a securities firm with foreign friends and also took on tutoring jobs. The children he taught were all first-year middle school students, including a girl with short hair. Although he didn’t actively seek out students, his experience gradually led to more referrals.
One day, a friend found it strange that Gu Si Yi had a particular requirement for his students. While rummaging through his wallet, he discovered a photo of a girl, and it suddenly clicked for him.
After the Spring Festival, students studying abroad who couldn’t return home organized a gathering to celebrate and get to know each other better. Gu Si Yi had come to study abroad with Sun Xian, who managed to enroll in a rather mediocre university in the UK thanks to his family's wealth. When Sun Xian first arrived, he was thrilled; after all, he was far from home and free from parental control. However, after a year, he grew tired of it all.
Throughout that year, Sun Xian dated various foreign girls but increasingly felt that those from his own country were more appealing. Once he learned about the gathering, he began messaging Gu Si Yi before the holiday, insisting that Gu Si Yi accompany him no matter what. Annoyed by Sun Xian's persistence but having nothing else to do at the time, Gu Si Yi agreed.
Knowing that Gu Si Yi had someone in his heart and fearing he might back out at the last minute, Sun Xian decided to move in with him to prevent any last-minute changes of plans.
On the fifth day of the new year, Sun Xian dragged Gu Si Yi to the designated meeting place. The group of students studying abroad was relatively well-off, and they chose an upscale restaurant for their gathering. About ten people showed up, six of whom were girls. Sun Xian scanned the room and chose the most beautiful girl to sit next to her. Another girl who bore a resemblance to Wu Yunyun was seated next to Gu Si Yi.
Once seated, Sun Xian focused on flirting with girls and completely ignored Gu Si Yi. As dishes were served one after another, Gu Si Yi concentrated on eating. Occasionally, someone would come over to toast him, and he would drink in response.
Since arriving here, he hadn’t allowed himself to get drunk; however, sitting next to someone made him think of Wu Yunyun back home. The more he thought about her, the more bitter the wine became.
The girl beside him offered him a sweet bun with a gentle smile. “You should eat something,” she said.
Gu Si Yi glanced at her and didn’t refuse. “Thank you.”
"You're welcome, my name is Tang Yahui. You can call me that here."
"It's nice to meet you."
"Likewise." Tang Yahui exchanged a glance with Gu Si Yi for a brief moment before quickly averting her eyes. This man was too charming; at that moment, she could clearly hear her own heartbeat.
In Teikyo, she had heard of his reputation. Her father praised him, saying he was a rare talent among his peers and would surely become a significant figure in Dijing City in the future.
At school, she had encountered him before. After observing him for a while, she realized his social circle was quite simple; aside from eating and sleeping, he spent all his time in the library.
She found it hard to resist such a man. Taking a sip of tea, Tang Yahui forced herself to calm down.
"May I ask, do you have any thoughts about dating recently?"
She wasn't one to beat around the bush, but even as she asked, she felt a bit nervous.
Gu Si Yi turned to look at her. Her gaze was straightforward and bold, completely different from her usual timid self.
"I'm sorry." Gu Si Yi quickly rejected her.
"It's fine." Tang Yahui looked away and turned to eat, trying to mask her embarrassment.
Sun Xian was sitting close to Gu Si Yi and overheard their conversation.
He leaned across Gu Si Yi and said to Tang Yahui, "Sister, if you can't handle him, I'll help you out."
Sun Xian spoke with such confidence that those present laughed and teased him: "Young Master Sun, do you really think you can manage Gu Shaoye?"
"Of course! Gu Si Yi and I have been together since we were kids wearing split pants. Now we have a solid ten years of friendship!" Sun Xian declared, as if he were moved by his own words. "Gu Si Yi, let's drink to our friendship!"
Gu Si Yi snorted but still gave him this courtesy.
The people present exchanged glances between the two of them, and one girl even thought about how she hadn’t considered approaching Sun Xian before.
Tang Yahui's previously lowered gaze disappeared after witnessing their interaction. With a glimmer of hope, she smiled gratefully at Sun Xian.
Sun Xian winked at her, giving her an assuring look.
After enjoying their meal and drinks, everyone began to leave.
Gu Si Yi had drunk a bit too much and tightly grasped Sun Xian's wrist. "You need to find a designated driver soon."
Sun Xian understood immediately. Gu Si Yi could tell from his expression that he was not really paying attention, especially since he had been drinking. After some thought, he decided to seek help from his other roommate.
Sun Xian was not pleased. "Gu Si Yi, why don't you trust me?" He snatched the phone from him.
"Give me the phone; I don’t want to repeat myself."
In no time, he contacted the Designated Driver. Sun Xian noticed his serious demeanor and quickly reached out to the Designated Driver. He tossed the phone back to Gu Si Yi and said, "I've called the Designated Driver; you can relax now."
