As the Spring Festival approached, Wu Yunyun returned to Yun Cheng as usual, no matter how much Gu Si Yi tried to persuade her to stay. Before leaving, she hugged him and said she would only be in Yun Cheng for five days at most.
Gu Si Yi wanted to go back with her, but he hesitated, thinking that they were not officially in a relationship yet, so he set that idea aside for the time being.
In Yun Cheng, Wu Yunyun spent time with her grandparents, visiting the market and buying a large amount of New Year goods. Her grandmother scolded her for spending money carelessly, while her grandfather smiled and remarked that his granddaughter had grown up.
Her grandfather had prepared some La Ji and Lap Cheong in advance for her. Wu Yunyun occasionally snacked on them while listening to their family stories. As they chatted, the conversation turned to her lifelong affairs. She was almost thirty and still hadn’t found the right partner, which was indeed a bit embarrassing.
Her grandmother tentatively asked if she had someone in mind. Her grandfather looked at her with hopeful eyes. Wu Yunyun thought for a moment and decided to be honest with them, saying that she was currently seeing someone but wasn’t sure if it would lead to marriage.
Her grandmother laughed and suggested that she could bring him home sometime for them to meet. Wu Yunyun politely declined, saying it wasn’t very convenient at the moment. The two elders exchanged a knowing glance and decided not to press further.
On New Year’s Eve, Wu Yunyun bought a lot of fireworks. After having the reunion dinner, her grandfather went out to set off the fireworks in the yard while her grandmother cuddled up next to Wu Yunyun, watching with a smile.
Wu Yunyun recorded a video and sent it to Wu's Mother, wishing her a Happy New Year. She thought about sending the video to Gu Si Yi but decided to wait until midnight to send him New Year greetings instead.
After the fireworks were finished, the family sat in front of the bed watching the Spring Festival Gala. Since her grandparents were older, they grew tired before ten o'clock. Wu Yunyun said goodbye to them and returned to her own room.
She checked WeChat but noticed that Gu Si Yi hadn’t replied. The messages she received were from Yu Chan and some of her colleagues. After chatting with them for a while, she glanced at the time and saw it was already eleven twenty. Then she received a location message from Gu Si Yi.
Wu Yunyun opened the message and saw that he was in Yun Cheng, and his location was less than a thousand meters away from her.
She was completely stunned. Quickly, she typed on her phone: You’re in Yun Cheng?
Yes.
Just a simple word, yet it stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within Wu Yunyun.
Where are you? she asked.
I’m near the District Health Institute in Yunxi District. There aren’t many people here. Gu Si Yi replied and sent her a photo.
Wu Yunyun zoomed in on the picture, said nothing, and replied: I’ll come find you.
She threw on a jacket and quietly stepped out the door. After walking for a while, she suddenly remembered that she should bring him something.
She returned to the kitchen, tore off two chicken legs, and grabbed a few packs of snacks before heading out again.
On her way to find him, she couldn’t help but wonder why he had suddenly come over. Did he miss her? Or was he alone for the holiday?
Regardless of the reason, she hoped to see him as soon as possible.
Her steps quickened, and when she spotted his familiar black car, she stopped.
Gu Si Yi was standing by the car, looking at Wu Yunyun with his arms wide open.
Wu Yunyun smiled and rushed into his embrace.
What brought you here? she asked, her voice tinged with uncontrollable joy.
I missed you, so I came. Gu Si Yi held her tightly in his arms, feeling the softness against him, and his heart finally settled.
Once they got into the car, Wu Yunyun handed him the chicken legs she had brought from home. Here! This is for you. Aren’t you hungry?
Gu Si Yi took it from her hand and took a bite. He was indeed a bit hungry.
