He felt a bit weary from driving today, but the thought of seeing her soon made it all bearable. He thought that at midnight, they could be together. After all, he had long considered her family. He wanted to reunite with her.
Gu Si Yi took a bite of a chicken leg, then set it down and checked his watch; there were still ten minutes until midnight. "Wu Yunyun, do you have any wishes for the new year?" he asked.
Gu Si Yi gazed intently at her, causing Wu Yunyun's cheeks to flush slightly. "I hope to make a lot of money this year!" she said with a cheerful smile.
"And what else?" he prompted.
"I hope my family stays healthy and safe!"
"And anything more?"
Wu Yunyun looked at him, as if she began to understand what he wanted her to say. "I also hope that your career, love life, and family all get better and better this year."
Gu Si Yi watched her; at that moment, her face was as rosy as a peach, but what she said wasn't exactly what he truly wished for. He thought that as long as he did well, she would gradually open her heart to him.
"You silly girl," Gu Si Yi teased, pinching the tip of Wu Yunyun's nose.
Outside, the sounds of fireworks began to fill the air, and Gu Si Yi and Wu Yunyun watched for a while. As the clock struck midnight, Gu Si Yi pulled out a big red envelope from the pocket of his wool coat and handed it to her. "Wu Yunyun, Happy New Year!"
Wu Yunyun's eyes widened in disbelief; she stared for a moment before finally taking the red envelope into her hands. "Is this for me?" she asked.
"Of course! I hope my Wu Yunyun has a year filled with love."
Tears streamed down Wu Yunyun's face uncontrollably as she hurriedly wiped them away with her sleeve. She didn't even know how to respond; she clearly didn't want to cry.
Gu Si Yi leaned in and kissed away her tear stains.
Wu Yunyun embraced him, lost in the kiss. With each touch, she found herself more addicted to this man. The atmosphere in the car was thick with emotion.
Eventually, Gu Si Yi pulled away and helped her adjust her clothes. He held her close and said, "We'll see each other after the holiday."
"Are you going back?" Wu Yunyun didn't realize how alluring she looked at that moment.
Gu Si Yi pressed a gentle kiss on her lips before replying, "I booked a hotel here for just one night. After I rest enough tomorrow, I'll head back."
Wu Yunyun hugged him tightly. "Then please be safe on your way back."
They reluctantly parted ways, and Wu Yunyun quietly returned home to get a good night's sleep.
The next morning, her grandmother woke up early to cook breakfast. Seeing that the leftovers from last night were missing two legs, she walked to Wu Yunyun's room and knocked on the door, asking about the food. She remembered that Yun Ya Tou had eaten quite a bit for dinner.
Wu Yunyun got up and explained that she had felt hungry in the middle of the night and had eaten a little more than usual. She rubbed her belly as she spoke.
Her grandmother stared at her for a moment but didn’t say much more. After her grandmother left, Wu Yunyun buried her face in her pillow, wishing she had brought something else for him instead.
