With just one glance, Leng Shaoqing spotted Bai Youlian sitting on the Western-style sofa.
She was dressed in a deep red Cheongsam, the delicate satin accentuating her skin, which appeared even more snow-white. At that moment, she was softly nestled against a Japanese officer, her flirtatious gaze revealing a hint of seduction.
The Japanese man affectionately rested his chin on her shoulder, his hands wandering restlessly around her waist.
"Get your filthy hands off me!" It felt as if his heart had been struck by a heavy blow; an intense anger surged from the depths of Leng Shaoqing's being. He forcefully pushed through the crowd, his steps hurried and determined as he strode directly toward them, each step fueled by fury and resolve.
Bai Youlian froze at the sound of his furious shout. When she recognized the imposing figure approaching her, her eyes widened in disbelief. "What are you…"
Before she could finish her sentence, Leng Shaoqing yanked her sharply, causing her to lose her balance as he dragged her out of the door.
"Let go of me! Leng Shaoqing!" Bai Youlian struggled fiercely, trying to shake off his iron-like grip. Her hands flailed as she attempted to break free from his hold.
"What? Is that sight not disgusting enough for you?" Leng Shaoqing's grip only tightened in response to his anger, the veins on his arms slightly bulging.
"Are you stalking me?" Bai Youlian's face was filled with confusion and shock. Leng Shaoqing had just returned to Shancheng yesterday; she could hardly believe he would show up in a place like this unless…
"Call it stalking if you want." Leng Shaoqing's eyes bore into hers, filled with questions. "What on earth are you doing?!"
"What right do you have to control me?" Bai Youlian took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "Don't forget your own identity!"
Her words struck like a sharp blade, causing Leng Shaoqing's body to stiffen abruptly. He slowly turned around, looking down at her from above, his voice low and trembling slightly. "You should remember your identity as well—my dear Aunt."
"Aunt."
The two words fell into Bai Youlian's ears, and her expression instantly turned wooden, as if covered by a layer of frost. "Since you still remember that I am your Aunt, then please let go of me."
Leng Shaoqing gritted his teeth, his jaw tightening as he slowly released his grip. "That Japanese..."
"Business partner." Bai Youlian interrupted him calmly and without hesitation. "You should have understood during the funeral yesterday that your uncle entrusted the Leng Family to me before he passed away. Now, Shancheng is under Japanese control. Offending Yamada means that the Leng Family won't just struggle to do business; they might not even survive. So, I have to do this."
The New Alliance was engaged in fierce battles with the Japanese on the front lines, smoke and flames filling the air. Yet this small Shancheng remained prosperous, simply because it was Japanese territory.
"You say you're doing this for the Leng Family?"
Leng Shaoqing's heart tightened painfully, as if gripped by an invisible hand, confusion and hurt filling his eyes. "Then tell me, why did you marry into the Leng Family? Why..."
A cold wind swept by, and Bai Youlian's heart suddenly ached. She fell silent, not answering, and turned to leave.
She hurried away, only stopping when she could no longer see Leng Shaoqing's figure behind her. Leaning against the cold wall, her gaze gradually became distant as her thoughts drifted far away.
It had been four years; she had thought about reuniting with him but never imagined it would be under such awkward circumstances—she as his Aunt and he as her nephew.
However, after just a moment, she took a deep breath, dispelling the misty emotions that clouded her mind. It was as if she buried all her feelings deep within her heart. With a slight smile and a hint of composure, she walked inside.
Yamada was drinking when he saw her. A malicious smile appeared on his face as he grabbed her hand and pulled her into his embrace. "Who was that just now?"
"Leng Kun's nephew," Bai Youlian said casually, a hint of coldness in her eyes.
"Oh?" Yamada smiled in a way that was hard to decipher, a glimmer of cunning flashing in his gaze. "Is he the one who returned from studying abroad? But it seems... he doesn't treat you like an Aunt."
Bai Youlian's fingers trembled slightly, her heart tightening, but her expression remained calm and composed. She playfully pinched Yamada and teased, "Colonel, are you feeling jealous? Who else in this world can help me besides you? He... is nothing to worry about."
Yamada chuckled proudly, "Aunt Bai, you're exaggerating. The Imperial Army still relies on the connections of the Leng Family to recruit manpower in Shancheng."
