Xu Rong looked in the direction he indicated, and his pupils dilated sharply. Lying on the dock was a gigantic biological carcass, resembling the corpse of some deep-sea creature, but its surface was covered in glowing symbols that closely resembled the plum blossom scars on their hands.
"This is not a product of natural evolution," the accompanying Marine Biologist stammered. "Its genetic sequence... is 90% similar to that of humans."
Xu Rong crouched down, and a sudden sharp pain shot through the scar on his right hand. He felt countless images flash through his mind: ancient architecture in the deep sea, symbols lighting up on the walls, and numerous glowing figures moving within...
"Xu Rong!" Lao Chen's shout pulled him back to reality.
He realized that he had unknowingly placed his hand on the biological carcass, and those glowing symbols were spreading up his arm.
"It's... assimilating me..." Xu Rong struggled to say, feeling his consciousness begin to blur. A low murmuring filled his ears, as if countless voices were speaking at once.
Suddenly, a tremendous splash erupted from the surface of the sea. The searchlight illuminated the source of the sound, and everyone gasped in shock—dozens of glowing figures were walking on the water's surface, their bodies semi-transparent and emanating an eerie blue light.
"It's those children!" Lao Chen exclaimed. "But how... how can they walk on water?"
Xu Rong felt the pain from his right hand scar peak; he saw those figures turn their heads towards him, wearing strange smiles. Their eyes had completely transformed into a fluorescent green, and their mouths stretched wide to their ears.
"Welcome Home..." they said in unison, their voices echoing across the water.
At that moment, a blinding light suddenly erupted from beneath the surface of the sea.
Xu Rong felt the entire dock tremble as the sea began to boil, bubbles rising to the surface.
"Get back!" Lao Chen shouted. "Something's coming up from the seabed!"
Dragged onto the police car, Xu Rong took one last look at the ocean and saw a massive shadow rising. It wasn't a creature; it was a structure—exactly the ancient architecture that had been flashing in his mind.
Suddenly, his phone rang with a new video from an unknown number: the Deep Sea Exploration Team's submersible was filming the interior of the building, its walls covered in glowing symbols. In the center of the structure floated a gigantic glowing cocoon...
"That's not where 'It' originated," Xu Rong murmured. "That's 'Its'... Hatching Ground..."
The police car sped away from the port, and in the rearview mirror, the glowing figures on the surface of the sea began to merge, forming a colossal humanoid shape.
Xu Rong felt the pain from the scar on his right hand suddenly vanish, replaced by an eerie calmness.
"It's too late," he whispered. "'It' has already completed its evolution..."
In the command center, Xu Rong stared at the real-time images transmitted by the satellite.
On the surface of the sea, the giant figure formed from glowing shapes was slowly rising, its outline becoming clearer—a perfect human form, towering over a hundred meters high.
"All units, pay attention," Lao Chen shouted into the communicator. "The target is moving toward the coast. Repeat, the target is moving toward the coast!"
Xu Rong felt a slight sting from his right hand scar and realized he could vaguely sense the emotions of that giant figure—not anger, not hatred, but... curiosity.
