At that moment, Qi Qiuluo suddenly appeared out of nowhere. His eyes lit up when he saw the egg custard in Yan Qing's hands. Without hesitation, he snatched it away and took a big spoonful, savoring it as he exclaimed, "Delicious!"
He glanced at Yan Qing and said, "Thanks!"
"Did I let you have any?" Tan Ming raised an eyebrow, his eyes filled with discontent.
"Do I need to be polite with my good friend?" Qi Qiuluo casually draped an arm over Yan Qing's shoulder, grinning widely. He even winked at Yan Qing.
Yan Qing could only smile helplessly, his face reflecting his resignation.
Qi Qiuluo provocatively shot a glance at Tan Ming, then playfully pinched Yan Qing's cheek, which felt quite nice to the touch. With a smirk, he teased, "What a good brother! Once we all make it out alive this time, I'll introduce you to some pretty girls!"
"Forget it," Yan Qing immediately rejected the idea, thinking about what kind of girls Qi Qiuluo could possibly find for him.
Qi Qiuluo squinted his eyes and asked deliberately, "You don't like girls, do you?"
"I haven't liked any girl so far," Yan Qing replied bluntly.
"Then do you like boys?" Qi Qiuluo inquired, glancing instinctively at Tan Ming.
Tan Ming also looked at Yan Qing curiously, his gaze probing.
"I don't like any boys either," Yan Qing said calmly.
"Huh?" Qi Qiuluo was taken aback, his mouth slightly agape. "You don't like girls or boys? That's hard to believe."
"What's so strange about that? Many people go their whole lives without getting married," Yan Qing replied without a hint of embarrassment. He felt no desire for romance at the moment. If he were to meet someone he liked in the future or someone waiting for him, that would be his fortune. If not, it was simply fate's arrangement, and he wouldn't feel regretful.
"Not strange?"
Someone like Qi Qiuluo, who had dated four girls and broken up with all of them in a single semester, would never understand.
"No way! So you never even think about it? When you do think about it, is it boys or girls?" Qi Qiuluo leaned closer to Yan Qing, purely out of gossiping curiosity.
That question felt too personal.
Yan Qing felt a bit embarrassed; this was something he preferred to avoid. His face turned red as he unconsciously fiddled with the hem of his shirt. After a long pause, he finally whispered, "A little."
"A little of what?" Qi Qiuluo pressed on relentlessly, his eyes fixed on him.
"Isn't it pointless for you to be so persistent?" Yan Qing snapped back, feeling like he had just stepped into a trap set by Qi Qiuluo. Immediately regretting his words, he wished he could find a hole to hide in.
Tan Ming glanced at him, his eyes filled with emotion. Qi Qiuluo looked at him, clicked his tongue twice, and shook his head, saying, "You don't seem capable at all; I didn't expect you to really be incapable."
"I'm not incapable; I just don't want to," Yan Qing defended himself. He simply hadn't met someone he felt a connection with.
Isn't 'incapable' just another way of saying 'not wanting'? These two words aren't really different, Qi Qiuluo thought.
He looked at Yan Qing with sympathy, having concluded that he was a bit pitiful. With a pout, he said, "I think you're just unwilling. Oh, Yan Qing, let me tell you, this is actually a problem; you need to address it early!"
"You’re the one with a problem! Not wanting is just not wanting; it’s not like I’m impotent," Yan Qing retorted angrily. He didn’t see anything wrong with being indifferent to desires; in fact, he found being alone quite comfortable and free.
"But if you keep this up, you'll miss out on a lot of happiness," Qi Qiuluo said with a look of regret.
"I'm happy, thank you," Yan Qing rolled his eyes.
"What were you about to say earlier?" Yan Qing wanted to change the subject and turned to Tan Ming. It was clear that Tan Ming hadn’t finished his earlier thought.
"Nothing much," Qi Qiuluo interjected. If there was something Tan Ming wanted to keep private, he certainly wouldn’t say it here.
"Don't change the subject! You can't keep avoiding this!" Qi Qiuluo continued relentlessly, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I appreciate your concern!" Yan Qing snatched the bowl from Qi Qiuluo's hands and shoved a large spoonful of egg custard into his mouth. "Just eat your food!"
Yan Qing slammed the bowl down heavily and turned to leave in long strides.
After taking a couple of steps toward the stairs, he hesitated as he realized he had nowhere to go upstairs and stopped in his tracks.
Looking back, he noticed Shen Jianghuan and several girls sitting just two tables away from Tan Ming, conveniently separated by a partition. It was clear they had overheard their conversation.
