Master Ban was jolted awake from his nap by the sudden commotion, springing up from his chair.
The people upstairs were also startled by the chaotic shouts and hurriedly rushed down.
"I saw Qi Qiuluo run in!" Jiang Jie exclaimed.
Not long after Qi Qiuluo entered, a fire broke out in the kitchen.
"Qi Qiuluo?" Zhang Liu asked, his brow furrowing.
"Where's Ke Da Shu?" Zhang Liu scanned the area, searching for Xie Jian, but he was nowhere to be seen.
"Water!" Shen Jianghuan shouted as he rushed down the stairs, his voice hoarse from urgency.
Only one display case was on fire, but the flames were fierce, leaping up to half a person's height and spreading wildly around, threatening to consume everything in their path. If they could extinguish it in time, perhaps they could prevent a tragedy.
The people upstairs were alarmed. Soon, they came down with buckets, basins, and any container they could find to fetch water and fight the fire. However, when they turned on the row of faucets by the restaurant stairs, not a drop of water came out.
"No water!" someone shouted in despair.
"What do we do?" The anxious voices of the crowd rose and fell, filled with helplessness and panic.
Shen Jianghuan ran over to Tan Ming, panting heavily. "The faucet is broken!"
Master Ban immediately crouched down to carefully inspect the faucet's valve seat, sealing ring, and O-ring, concluding that it wasn't the faucet's fault.
"Is it a problem with the water valve?" someone asked.
"I'll check the valve!" Zhang Liu said without hesitation as he turned and dashed back upstairs.
"The water line in the kitchen isn't connected to the sink below!" Tan Ming suddenly recalled.
He covered his nose and sprinted toward the kitchen like an arrow released from a bow, disappearing into the thick smoke in an instant.
"Hey, your back injury!" Shen Jianghuan called out anxiously from behind, his voice filled with concern.
A few minutes later...
As the flames grew fiercer, dancing wildly and sending thick smoke spiraling upward, everyone on the first floor was overwhelmed, tears streaming down their faces as they coughed uncontrollably. They had fortified the restaurant against the mutated plants and animals outside, but now they found themselves trapped in a suffocating atmosphere, the air growing thin and each person struggling to breathe.
Dr. Wang stumbled down from upstairs, gasping for breath as he shouted, " Master Ban, the water valve upstairs is broken!"
Upon hearing this, Master Ban didn't waste a moment; he turned and dashed back up the stairs.
Tan Ming rushed into the kitchen and quickly turned on the faucet. Spotting a towel hanging on the wall, he grabbed it without hesitation, wetting it before tightly covering his mouth and nose. He hurriedly searched for a water pipe, remembering clearly that there was one in the kitchen since he had seen Cafeteria Auntie use it to wash dishes before.
After rummaging through several rusty iron cabinets, he finally found the water pipe coiled up. Connecting it to the faucet with lightning speed, he grabbed the other end and dashed out like a bolt of lightning.
As he reached the doorway, his gaze inadvertently flickered back toward the kitchen. To his shock, he saw two people lying on the floor inside a room. Frowning slightly, he handed one end of the water pipe to a student nearby.
Everyone lined up to collect water while Master Ban was upstairs; soon enough, water began to flow into the basin below. Armed with various tools, they all worked together to extinguish the fire.
Tan Ming held the wet towel in his hand and made his way back into the kitchen toward the two people he had just seen.
