Hearing his words, everyone felt a bit less anxious, though some still held onto their pessimistic thoughts. His gaze swept over those individuals as he continued, "Worrying about things that haven't happened yet is completely unnecessary. Right now, we still have ten and a half hours. We are safe, absolutely free, and can finally take a breather. So, everyone, make the most of this time to rest and recharge!"
"That's right, everyone should disperse for now," Zhang Liu echoed.
"What about the arsonist? Are we not going to search for them?" someone asked.
"Yeah, how can anyone sleep knowing there’s a murderer hiding nearby?" another voice chimed in.
"Did you see who set the fire?" Tan Ming inquired.
The crowd fell silent.
"The only three people who might know who started the fire were just carried out, and two of them are still unconscious," Tan Ming stated. "If we want to find the culprit, we’ll have to wait until Xu Le and Li Jianping wake up."
Once everyone understood this point, they left with their own complicated thoughts and feelings.
The messengers gathered at the third window of the first-floor restaurant, and Qi Qiuluo joined them. Tan Ming added one more thing.
He was the first to stride outside, his back straight like a poplar tree, his steps steady and powerful, showing no signs of his serious injuries.
Across from the third window, Li Jianping and Xu Le lay on a table, completely oblivious and still unconscious.
The messengers sat in a circle while Qi Qiuluo occupied a separate table.
"Are you going to speak for yourself or let us interrogate you?" Zhang Liu asked sharply.
"Interrogate? On what grounds? I didn’t start the fire!" Qi Qiuluo shouted angrily.
"I saw you go into the kitchen, and shortly after that, it caught fire," Jiang Jie said softly, a hint of doubt in his voice.
Qi Qiuluo widened his eyes in confusion. "Wait, you all saw that door behind the kitchen! The person who set the fire ran out from there! I was knocked out by the real culprit and stuffed into a cabinet! I almost lost my life! I'm also a victim here!"
"Then why did you go into the kitchen at that time?" Tan Ming asked.
"Wasn't it you who told me to go?" Qi Qiuluo replied as he reached into his pocket but found nothing. He stood up abruptly, frantically checking all his pockets with a furrowed brow. "Wait, where's that note?"
"What note?" Tan Ming asked with a serious expression.
"The note! After I went upstairs, it was under my pillow! It was signed by Tan Ming! He told me to go to the kitchen because he had something to discuss with me. Why would I disturb my sleep otherwise? And then I ended up in this mess!"
Tan Ming looked up at him with a serious expression. "I didn't write any note and put it under your pillow."
"What about your note?"
Everyone could tell that Qi Qiuluo had been set up, but why did the arsonist trick him into the back kitchen? What was the motive behind wanting to harm him?
Qi Qiuluo slapped his pants in frustration and said with a gloomy expression, "It's gone!"
Tan Ming asked, "Do you remember who knocked you out?"
"If I knew who it was, I would have cursed them out long ago. Why are you asking me?" Qi Qiuluo raised an eyebrow, looking defiant.
That made sense to everyone present.
They wondered what the assailant was thinking—what did they gain from knocking him out? Fan Xiaonan couldn't help but voice his confusion.
Upon hearing this, Qi Qiuluo jumped up suddenly. "What do you mean I’m not good-looking? Am I not handsome?"
Shen Jianghuan lowered his gaze and let out a soft sigh.
"Why are you sighing? Do I look that unfortunate?" Qi Qiuluo asked anxiously.
