"What is going on?" Tan Gu asked him.
Tan Ming candidly admitted, "It's exactly what you see."
Tan Gu's expression was a mix of shock and disbelief. "How can you justify this to anyone?"
He found it hard to accept.
"I only need to justify it to myself."
Tan Gu clenched his fist. "What about Mom and Dad? What will they think?"
"They're not my concern." The young Tan Ming was colder than ever, indifferent even to his closest family.
"You!" Tan Gu's lips trembled with anger at his brother's attitude. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said, "They may not be able to control you, but I will!"
The two brothers then started fighting.
Tan Ming and Tan Gu had fought countless times since childhood, but this time it was the fiercest. They exchanged blows on the ground, neither willing to back down.
Their scuffle attracted the attention of the housekeeper, who was at a loss for how to intervene. In desperation, she called their father.
Tan Chi was sleeping in his room when he was awakened by the noise. Seeing his two older brothers with swollen faces and bleeding wounds made him burst into tears.
Neither brother paid him any mind; they fought even harder.
Realizing that crying wouldn't help, Tan Chi was furious. "I hate both of you! I don't want you as my brothers anymore!" With that, he ran out of the house.
When their mother arrived, she cried upon seeing the situation. Their father, furious, ordered the driver and bodyguards to restrain both brothers while he personally dealt with them, giving each a thorough reprimand before it ended.
By the time they remembered Tan Chi, he had already disappeared without a trace.
"It seems you really don't like your brother," Yan Qing remarked sympathetically towards the little boy.
"Do you like him?"
"Of course! Little brothers are so adorable."
"Then he's yours."
"You're a bit cruel to your brother," Yan Qing said.
Tan Ming took a moment to reflect on himself. Cruel? Perhaps. After all, that kid only remembered the good times; every time he visited, he would excitedly run up and hug him.
The child asked him more and more if he had brought any gifts. Yan Qing noticed the raised eyebrows of Tan Ming and felt that he didn't actually dislike his younger brother as much as he pretended; he was just too stubborn to admit it.
"You've known about me for a long time, so why are we only just getting to know each other now? You came to the city and didn't even contact me. Aren't you going to treat me to a meal to show your gratitude?" Yan Qing joked.
It turned out that the two of them had quite a connection. However, after he finished speaking, Tan Ming looked at him and replied coldly, "It's you who doesn't recognize me."
Tan Ming had come to the city, but he wasn't sure if Yan Qing would also apply to this university. So when he saw Yan Qing shining at the social event, he felt genuinely happy. After the event, he added Yan Qing as a friend and introduced himself, but after that, it was like a stone sinking into the sea; Yan Qing had yet to accept his friend request.
"If you don't come to get to know me, how can I get to know you?" Yan Qing was somewhat at a loss for words at this remark. But after saying this, Tan Ming didn't engage with him anymore.
Yan Qing also knew better than to be annoying. He sensed that Tan Ming's personality was one that didn't like being disturbed. Yan Qing had a principle when interacting with others: to maintain a sense of boundaries as much as possible. This principle had allowed him to navigate various relationships smoothly.
