"Why doesn't your Red Card have a number?" Shen Jianghuan asked her again.
This was impossible. Jiang Jie knew her own Red Card well; how could she not know whether there were numbers on it?
She snatched the Red Card from Shen Jianghuan's hand and looked at it. The front was blank, the numbers had vanished, and the plum blossom symbol was gone too.
How could this happen? She was taken aback.
"Everyone, check your cards," Tan Ming reminded them.
Could it be that after three uses of the Messenger Gear, the numbers and plum blossoms on the Red Card would disappear?
The Messengers all took out their cards to check. The numbers on their cards were intact; only Jiang Jie’s had disappeared.
"Why did the number on Jiang Jie’s card vanish?" Qi Qiuluo questioned. "In Wang Zhiqiang's personality, why did the mysterious figure hide his card? Did he really not want us to guess the number on it?"
The moment the question was raised, everyone's expressions turned strange.
Tan Ming thought of Jiang Jie’s Messenger Gear, the Lie Detector camera.
It seemed that everyone else's Messenger Gear was intangible, except for Jiang Jie’s.
Suddenly, Shen Jianghuan exclaimed, "You’re the murderer!"
Shen Jianghuan looked at Jiang Jie, shaking her head as she said, "I can’t see your Messenger Information anymore."
Each of them had corresponding Messengers who could see their information. But now, Shen Jianghuan couldn’t see Jiang Jie’s.
"No!" Jiang Jie let out a low growl, covering her mouth with one hand. Her eyes were wide with rage, and the Red Card in her other hand lay still like stagnant water.
Even if she initiated a vote, there was no response.
Shen Jianghuan's expression changed drastically as she jumped back a large step from Jiang Jie. Jiang Jie looked at her, trying to make her believe in her innocence.
"You’re the murderer?" Shen Jianghuan asked with certainty.
"No!" Jiang Jie cried out, burying her face in her long black hair that cascaded down to her waist. She didn’t understand why the numbers on her card had suddenly disappeared.
Looking up, her face was pale, a few strands of hair stuck to her cheeks, and her eyes were misty with tears.
She wanted to argue for herself, even to use the Lie Detector, but then she remembered that the last time she used the Messenger Gear, it had ruined her chances. Shen Jianghuan tightened her grip on the Red Card and stopped listening to her excuses.
A voice echoed: the Spellcaster initiated a vote.
The voting concluded. Five messengers cast their votes, and the results were as follows: the Spellcaster voted to eliminate the Mage, the Chef voted to eliminate the Mage, Jiang Shi voted to eliminate the Mage, the Destructionist voted to eliminate the Mage, and the Healer voted to eliminate the Mage.
The Mage received the highest number of votes and was now subject to Disciplinary Action.
In the next moment, flames erupted around Jiang Jie.
The onlookers included the Prophet, a Werewolf, a Wizard, a Thief, and a Sorcerer.
Jiang Jie looked at her burning fingers, her pupils constricting as she suddenly understood why her card was empty. She laughed, but it was a laugh so ugly it sounded worse than crying.
An empty card—why?
Because she wasn’t really Jiang Jie!
She closed her eyes, her mind drifting back to before the activation of the system when she had been called into the teacher's office. Approaching the door, she noticed it was slightly ajar.
Inside, a man's voice rang out.
"Teacher, do you need me to call for that student named Jiang Jie on your list?"
The female teacher glanced at the clock. "No, she should be here soon."
The man asked her, "Will she also be delayed in graduating like I was?"
"I see you gave her a failing grade in her retake elective."
