After the darkness, dawn arrived.
Yan Qing's body had experienced a violent tugging before he woke up.
He opened his eyes.
He found himself in the library, sprawled over a study desk. His laptop was lit up beside him, still displaying the page of his revised thesis. Tan Ming was sitting in the adjacent seat, arms crossed, fast asleep on the desk. The other students were similarly slumped over in their chairs.
What was going on? How could everyone fall asleep while standing?
One by one, they began to wake up. The study room was brightly lit, its minimalist decor shining under the lights. The lamps on the shelves illuminated the warm glow over rows of books. The artificial flowers on his desk remained in place.
Yan Qing felt a bit dazed. He nudged Tan Ming beside him. "Tan Ming, wake up!"
Tan Ming rubbed his bleary eyes and looked at Yan Qing. "Wow, that was a long sleep! Seven days!" The speaker was the same student who had spontaneously combusted on the first day in the library.
"Goodness," Yan Qing exclaimed, "Why are there so many missed calls?" A classmate glanced at their phone and noticed numerous notifications for missed calls.
He called back, "Hello? Mom? What? Missing contact?"
"Our school is shrouded in fog? What are you talking about? I just took a nap!"
Wait...
He suddenly realized something, and his voice trailed off.
I just took a nap; nothing happened.
Inside the library, voices filled the air. Yan Qing listened to the sounds of their phone conversations and, from their reactions upon waking, realized they had all forgotten.
"Do you remember?" Tan Ming asked uncertainly.
He held Yan Qing's hand tightly. "I remember."
Yan Qing felt a wave of relief wash over him.
They walked out of the library hand in hand. The campus looked just as it always had, the dilapidated grounds that had been so severely damaged seemed to exist only in their dreams.
Yan Qing felt a tightness in his throat.
He was overwhelmed with emotion, trembling as he raised his hand to shield his eyes from the sun, which appeared normal in size against the sky.
So, did we finally succeed?
Tan Ming nodded.
It was Fan Xiaonan who terminated the system, Tan Ming explained. He could only say that He Zhengwei was too cunning. The Destructioner's Messenger Tool could dismantle the Destruction system; even Fan Xiaonan himself was unaware and stumbled upon it by chance.
Before the system was destroyed, Tan Ming had swapped identities with the king and used the Messenger Tool on its behalf. The Wolf Messenger Identity, as the king's substitute, caused the Messenger Tool to vanish into thin air. This allowed them to counteract Tong Chengjie, lifting oppression and erasing memories to restore everything.
Clue one: Little King, the substitute for the Wolf Messenger Identity, reversed by the Messenger Tool.
So everything returned to normal.
"Hey, Yan Qing! I finally found you!" Qi Qiuluo exclaimed joyfully as she approached them.
Along with her were Fan Xiaonan, Master Ban, and Li Jianping.
In Fountain Square, Ling Xingyuan held Liu Xuanzhu tightly in an embrace, disregarding anyone else's gaze. Liu Xuanzhu patted Ling Xingyuan's back gently. "Alright now, no more crying."
Shen Jianghuan called out to the person in front of him, Jiang Jie.
Jiang Jie paused in his tracks.
"Hey, Yan Qing!"
Wang Zhiqiang, wearing glasses, ran over to them excitedly.
"Senior!"
Zhang Liu approached from the corner of the Administrative Building.
The group exchanged glances and finally broke into a knowing smile.
Jiang Jie looked away from their gaze.
Tan Ming asked her, "Is there something else, Jiang Jie?"
Jiang Jie was taken aback, her hands trembling involuntarily.
"How did you wake up with dark circles under your eyes?" Qi Qiuluo teased her.
"Dark circles? That's nothing! I even dreamed while sleeping, dreaming that I became a hero!" Fan Xiaonan said proudly.
The fear that had weighed heavily on Jiang Jie was suddenly lifted, replaced by understanding and acceptance from her friends.
