"Are you feeling down? Do you want to see her?" Han Jincheng asked tentatively.
Mu Yunze's heart sank. He never expected Han Jincheng would suggest he see the Class Flower. Taking a deep breath, he replied, "No, I don't want to."
Han Jincheng was taken aback, seemingly surprised by his abrupt refusal. "Why?" she asked, puzzled.
Looking at her, Mu Yunze said slowly, "I still have homework to do."
After that, Mu Yunze kicked a stone by the roadside, watching it roll into the grass. It mirrored his current mood—restless and agitated. He had lied to Han Jincheng; he had no homework to complete. He simply wanted to sever any ties with the Class Flower.
He recalled the Class Flower's disdainful laughter and her flippant attitude towards feelings, and a wave of nausea washed over him. Covering his mouth, he rushed to a nearby trash can and began to gag.
"Damn it!" He slammed his fist against the trash can, producing a dull thud. He felt like such a fool!
In the past, he had been introverted and awkward, idolizing the Class Flower while carefully guarding his humble crush. He had imagined countless scenarios of being with her, each one more beautiful than a fairy tale. Now that fairy tale had shattered; all he saw was the ugly reality—blatant deception.
"Love games are such bullshit!" Mu Yunze spat out, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes. He suddenly felt ridiculous for how he had acted before, like a clown performing a pathetic love act in front of the Class Flower.
Wiping his face with his hand, he looked up at the overcast sky and took a deep breath. He needed to change; he could no longer be that weak and inept version of himself. The Class Flower's appearance had dealt him a heavy blow but also forced him to confront reality and reflect on himself.
He remembered what Li Haoyu once said: "Women are like buses; if you miss one, there’s always another." Though crude, it now seemed profoundly wise.
A bitter smile crept onto Mu Yunze's lips as he thought about how he had ever believed in such a hypocritical woman as the Class Flower. How blind he had been!
Clenching his fists, an unprecedented determination ignited within him. He would change; he would become stronger, more confident, and better than before. He wanted the Class Flower to regret how she had treated him—to regret playing with his feelings.
In the following days, Mu Yunze transformed completely; it was as if he had been reborn. No longer the quiet and timid boy, he actively participated in class activities, laughing and joking with his classmates. He even volunteered to run for Vice President of the Student Council, showcasing leadership skills he never knew he possessed.
He began studying diligently, spending hours in the library voraciously absorbing knowledge. His grades skyrocketed from being mediocre to among the top in his class. He even started working out every day, determined to become stronger and more energetic.
He woke up early to run, sweating profusely as he felt strength surging through his body. He trained in boxing to toughen his willpower and joined debate competitions to hone his speaking skills and boost his confidence.
This transformation astonished both classmates and teachers alike. They watched as Mu Yunze evolved from an inconspicuous boy into a shining young man.
Especially Han Jincheng; as she observed Mu Yunze's changes, her emotions were mixed and complicated—something she couldn't quite articulate. She felt happy for him yet worried too, along with some feelings she couldn't even define herself.
One afternoon in the cafeteria, Han Jincheng found Mu Yunze and hesitated for a moment before mustering her courage to say, "Mu Yunze, you seem different lately."
Mu Yunze looked up at her with eyes full of confidence and determination. "Yes," he replied calmly yet powerfully, "I’ve changed for the better." His tone was steady as if declaring his rebirth.
Han Jincheng paused before Mu Yunze's lips curled into a faint smirk. Better? He was curious about what kind of tricks the Class Flower was hiding.
As morning sunlight streamed through the classroom window, a beautifully arranged breakfast sat on Mu Yunze's desk.
On Monday, there were steaming crab roe soup dumplings, each delicately crafted and emitting an enticing aroma from the exquisite bamboo steamer. On Tuesday, it was golden, crispy sandwiches paired with a glass of fresh orange juice, a perfect balance of nutrition. By Wednesday, a bowl of hot milk cereal adorned with various fruits and nuts filled the air with a rich milky scent. It was obvious who sent these treats—who else but the Class Flower?
The transformation of the Class Flower left her classmates in shock. The once proud and aloof Lin Shu Yao seemed like a different person, showing genuine concern for Mu Yunze, asking him how he was doing.
During breaks, she would actively approach Mu Yunze, inquiring about his studies. "Mu Yunze, did you get this question right?" Her voice was as sweet as honey as she leaned over to pretend to check his homework, her figure subtly accentuated.
Mu Yunze subtly shifted to the side, maintaining a calm demeanor. "No need, I've already finished." His tone was polite yet distant, devoid of any ambiguity.
Class Flower was taken aback but didn’t give up. The next day, she sought him out again. "Mu Yunze, you've been studying so hard lately; are you planning to take the graduate entrance exam?"
Her voice remained sweet and slightly flirtatious. "I know a senior who got into Peking University; I can ask him if he has any tips to share." She blinked her big eyes at him expectantly.
"No need, I can handle it myself." Mu Yunze's tone was still cold as he unceremoniously rejected her advances.
On the third day, Class Flower approached him once more. "Mu Yunze, what do you want for lunch? I can help you get it," she asked eagerly.
"No thanks." Mu Yunze curtly declined and stood up, grabbing his books before leaving the classroom without looking back.
By Thursday, a fragrant chicken cutlet rice appeared on Mu Yunze's desk, accompanied by a variety of side dishes that filled the air with delicious aromas. Class Flower stood nearby, her face full of anticipation. "Mu Yunze, I made this especially for you; give it a try."
"Thank you, but I'm not hungry." Mu Yunze didn’t even glance at her and simply walked past Class Flower out of the classroom.
