Rumors spread through the campus like wildfire. What began as a few whispered conversations quickly escalated into a raging storm, engulfing the entire school.
Initially, the gossip claimed that the Class Flower had been dumped by Ye Jingtai, vividly detailing how Ye had grown tired of her and sought out someone new. This rumor spread like a virus, mutating into countless versions, each more malicious than the last. Some said that the Class Flower had sold herself to cling to Ye Jingtai; others added that she had been promiscuous long before their relationship began. Even more outrageous details emerged, painting the Class Flower as a loose woman with no morals.
These rumors cut like sharp knives into the Class Flower's heart. Already exhausted from her feelings for Ye Jingtai, she felt as though she were being buried under an avalanche of despair. She dared not step outside, afraid to face the judgmental glances and whispered comments; she avoided classes, terrified of overhearing her classmates' mocking whispers; she even refrained from answering her phone, fearing the malicious voices on the other end.
She locked herself in her dorm room, crying endlessly. Her once-bright eyes had lost their luster, and her cheerful smile had vanished, replaced by an overwhelming sense of hopelessness and pain.
Mu Yunze felt as if a heavy stone were pressing down on his chest upon hearing these rumors. Although he no longer loved the Class Flower, witnessing her being so cruelly maligned stirred deep feelings of anguish within him. He knew that Su Wanqing was behind these rumors. This woman would stop at nothing to achieve her goals, lacking any sense of morality.
Furious, he confronted Su Wanqing, demanding that she cease her despicable actions. Yet she feigned innocence, blinking her large eyes in confusion and saying, "Mu Yunze, what are you talking about? I don't understand." Her expression of surprise was so exaggerated it seemed to mock him.
"Stop pretending, Su Wanqing!" Mu Yunze said through gritted teeth, each word dripping with anger. "You spread these rumors; you think I don't know?" His voice was low and filled with warning, like a cornered beast ready to explode.
Su Wanqing sneered, showing no remorse whatsoever. Instead, she spoke with a taunting tone: "Even if I did spread them, what are you going to do about it? The Class Flower brought this upon herself; who can she blame?" She cast a disdainful glance at Mu Yunze, her eyes brimming with contempt and satisfaction.
Mu Yunze trembled with rage, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. He longed to strike this woman for her cruelty but knew that would only worsen matters. He had to remain calm and find a more effective way to resolve this issue.
"You will get your comeuppance, Su Wanqing," he said through clenched teeth, each word forced out with fury and warning.
Su Wanqing shrugged dismissively and replied mockingly, "Comeuppance? I'll be waiting." She showed no concern for Mu Yunze's warning and laughed freely as if everything was under her control.
Turning away from her, Mu Yunze understood that arguing with someone like her was futile. He needed to gather evidence to expose Su Wanqing's true nature and clear the Class Flower's name.
Fury burned within him as he clenched his fists tightly. The sight of Su Wanqing made him feel sick; he knew that helping the Class Flower clear her name was now his top priority. He could not stand by and watch as one girl’s life was destroyed by malicious rumors.
