Wild Grass Racing 37: The Road to Learning

In middle school, the curriculum keeps increasing day by day, and time at school is very tight; it's all about studying. However, my habit of reading various books has not changed. I always find ways to squeeze in some reading, and over time, I discovered a unique "road to learning." 0

There are two routes from my home to school. The one that passes by Changtangchong and Yuanxi Kou Courtyard is more crowded, with classmates gathering on their way to and from school, making it impossible to avoid some playful banter. I am someone who moves swiftly, having been the officially appointed "Road Captain" and the elected "Wild Commander" in elementary school. This route seemed to provide me with more opportunities to shine. When I first started middle school, I often chose this straightforward yet playful "main road." 0

The road behind, which passes through three small hills and a ridge, is seldom traveled. Most of the time, one has to navigate the narrow paths between the mountains or tread through the forest where there are no trails, often accompanied by feelings of solitude and fear. At first, I was always hesitant to try it. 0

However, because few people walked this way, it became a great place to read extracurricular books. One time, while walking along this path, I took out a comic book from my backpack that a classmate had asked me to return as soon as I got to school. Seizing the last opportunity, I hurriedly read through it and gradually fell in love with this way of spending time: almost every time I went to school or came home, as long as I had "food" in my backpack, I would walk alone on this secluded yet interesting "little road." 0

This road is so suitable for "the road to learning." Walking along the forest path, I didn't have to worry about small stones or trash tripping me up. Even while holding an extracurricular book and keeping my eyes focused on the words, my feet moved mechanically, and there was rarely a chance of falling. 0

Occasionally, as I watch my head about to collide with the small trees, my body miraculously reacts, moving a foot or two to the left or right, preventing any accidents from happening. Over time, when I walk into these woods, my steps seem premeasured, neither fast nor slow, in sync with the rhythm of reading. Everything in the world seems to make way and disappear, except for the book in front of me and the path in my heart, until I approach the road in front of the school or walk past the small hill behind the house. I found a good place for "walking and reading," but due to the constraints of schoolwork and farm work, time is still not enough, forcing me to adopt the fastest browsing method when reading these books. 0

The result of reading ten lines at a glance not only allows oneself to understand the general content and core of the book in the shortest time, but also promotes the bad habit of "not seeking deep understanding." I have never delved into detailed reading, so now when I look back, I can't remember what I read on this "Path of Wandering." Long-term "skimming" has affected my study habits. When teachers mention something, it leaves an impression in my mind, and I think I know and understand it. But when it comes to using it, I can't easily retrieve the corresponding knowledge from my brain. If I only use this knowledge superficially, I can solve problems like in elementary school and temporarily occupy the throne of an "excellent student." However, once deeper and broader efforts are needed, the problem of "superficial understanding" is exposed. 0

Although this segment of "The Road to Learning" did not create any memorable miracles for myself, it instead affected my study habits and even constrained my steps toward greater development. However, I do not regret having walked this small mountain path, this journey of life. 0
