Han Jincheng lifted her head, her eyes glistening with tears as she looked at Mu Yunze. "Mu Yunze, I'm scared."
Mu Yunze gently wiped the tears from her face and said firmly, "Don't be afraid, Jincheng. I'm here, and I won't let anyone hurt you." He held her tightly, as if trying to merge her into his very being.
The two remained in their quiet embrace until Li Haoyu came running over, panting and breaking the moment of tranquility.
"Mu Yunze! Great news! Really great news!" Li Haoyu exclaimed excitedly.
Mu Yunze frowned slightly, a bit annoyed. "What is it? Why the fuss?" He felt a twinge of irritation at being interrupted during such a sweet moment with his girlfriend.
Li Haoyu grinned and leaned in closer to Mu Yunze, speaking in a conspiratorial tone. "My girlfriend, the gossip queen Wu Yuwei, heard that you and Jincheng are together. She insists on taking you both out to celebrate! She says she knows a new restaurant that has amazing food and absolutely must take you there!"
With a sigh of resignation, Mu Yunze realized he really didn’t want to go but felt it would be rude to refuse Li Haoyu and Wu Yuwei's kind invitation. He turned to Han Jincheng to seek her opinion. She hesitated too; her mood was still unsettled, and she had no appetite for food.
"Let's go, Jincheng," Mu Yunze said softly, holding her hand. "Think of it as a way to take your mind off things. We shouldn't let the Class Flower incident affect us."
Han Jincheng nodded, forcing a smile despite her reluctance.
Thus, the three of them headed to the restaurant recommended by Wu Yuwei. Along the way, Li Haoyu excitedly shared various gossip about Wu Yuwei, trying to lighten the mood. However, Han Jincheng remained uninterested, only occasionally chiming in.
The restaurant was located on a bustling street in the city center, decorated in a stylish yet cozy manner. Wu Yuwei had already reserved a table by the window for four. As soon as she spotted Mu Yunze and Han Jincheng, she rushed over with enthusiasm.
"Finally! You guys are here! I couldn't wait to share my latest gossip with you!" Wu Yuwei exclaimed, completely oblivious to Han Jincheng's forced smile.
Like a cheerful little bird, Wu Yuwei chattered away non-stop. She vividly described all sorts of gossip from school—everything from the secret romance between the student council president and the cheerleading captain to shocking revelations about club presidents playing both sides, and even tales of crushes changing hands among students. She seemed to know everything.
Her expressions were animated as she spoke—sometimes indignant, sometimes covering her mouth with laughter, and at other times feigning mystery—gradually easing Mu Yunze's earlier frustration.
Listening to her animated storytelling filled with exaggerated tones and rich expressions made Mu Yunze chuckle despite himself. After laughing, he finally took notice of this gossip queen: she was petite and charming, wearing a pink shirt that highlighted her fair skin and revealing long legs beneath her denim shorts.
Her smile was sweet, and her large eyes sparkled as if hiding countless secrets. While she might not be an extraordinary beauty that could captivate nations, she certainly possessed her own charm.
