Mu Yunze wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and watched the police car drive away, a smirk forming in his heart. Ye Jingtai, that kid, probably never expected to be outsmarted. He strolled leisurely to the roadside and pulled out his phone to call Kong Haoyu. "Li Haoyu, thanks, brother. I'll treat you to skewers tonight!"
This incident had escalated too much, attracting the police's attention, and the school couldn't just let it slide. Ye Jingtai and his gang spent two days in the station, and when they emerged, they all looked disheveled. The school issued them demerits, and Ye Jingtai was ordered to write a self-criticism, which he had to read aloud in front of the entire school.
Standing on the podium, Ye Jingtai's face was more twisted than if he had eaten something foul. He was used to being arrogant and domineering; he had never experienced such humiliation before. As he glanced down at his classmates whispering and pointing at him, he wished he could find a hole to crawl into. His anger flared even more when he spotted Mu Yunze sitting among them, wearing an expression that was half-smile, half-mockery.
After finishing his self-criticism, Ye Jingtai returned to the classroom and slammed his backpack onto the floor. Liu Feng leaned over cautiously and asked, " Brother Tai, are we just going to swallow this?"
Ye Jingtai slammed his fist on the desk, gritting his teeth as he replied, "Swallow it? No way! That kid made me lose so much face; I’m going to make him pay!"
However, Liu Feng hesitated. With both the school and police watching them closely, it wasn't a good time to act.
Ye Jingtai snorted coldly. "Who said anything about acting out physically? I have my ways to deal with him!"
In the following days, Mu Yunze found himself becoming a celebrity on campus. Everywhere he went, people pointed and whispered about him. Some admired his courage for standing up to Ye Jingtai; others mocked him for being reckless and warned that he would have a hard time ahead.
Mu Yunze paid no mind to these rumors. He continued attending classes regularly and spent his afternoons studying in the library with Han Jincheng.
The library was filled with a faint scent of books as Mu Yunze and Han Jincheng sat side by side at a table, each engrossed in their own reading. Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting dappled shadows on the floor.
Han Jincheng occasionally stole glances at Mu Yunze, her thoughts racing as she held her book but barely registered its content. The bet she had made with Class Flower weighed heavily on her mind like a stone pressing down on her chest.
Finally, she closed her book with a deep breath as if she had made a significant decision. "Mu Yunze," she said softly, her tone tinged with nervousness, "I have something to tell you."
Mu Yunze looked up at her with gentle eyes. "What is it?"
Han Jincheng bit her lip, her gaze flickering nervously. "Actually, Lin Shu Yao made a bet with me..."
She recounted everything that had happened in detail until her voice trailed off at the end, barely audible.
After finishing her story, she anxiously watched Mu Yunze for his reaction. She imagined various possibilities: he might be angry or furious or even look down on her.
However, Mu Yunze simply smiled faintly, his tone calm enough to surprise her. "I know."
Han Jincheng froze, her eyes wide in disbelief. "You know?"
"Yeah," Mu Yunze nodded. "I knew from the very beginning."
"Then why didn't you—" Han Jincheng was even more confused now. "Why didn't you expose us?"
Mu Yunze shrugged casually. "Because after hearing those words from Class Flower, I stopped caring about it anyway. Besides, I have you now, don’t I?"
