Mu Yunze turned over, covering his head with the blanket, too lazy to deal with it. Just then, his phone rang; it was the counselor.
"Mu Yunze, the school is organizing a welcome party next week, and you and Chu Mohan are responsible for preparing the program," the counselor's voice came through clearly.
What? With Chu Mohan? Mu Yunze sat up abruptly, his mind buzzing.
"Yes, that's right, Chu Mohan," the counselor confirmed. "You two are the artistic backbone of the class, and I believe you can make this party a success."
Mu Yunze wanted to refuse, but the words caught in his throat. He knew that outright rejection would only raise suspicion from the counselor.
After hanging up, Mu Yunze felt as if he had fallen into an abyss, despair wrapping around him tightly. He couldn’t understand why he had to prepare the event with Chu Mohan. Wasn’t that just pouring salt on his wounds?
"What happened? Did the counselor assign you some tough task?" Li Haoyu asked with concern upon seeing Mu Yunze's expression.
"They want me to prepare the welcome party with Chu Mohan," Mu Yunze gritted his teeth as he spoke.
"Wow! What a coincidence!" Li Haoyu exclaimed. "You really have it rough; just got rejected by her and now you have to spend all your time together. It’s awkward just thinking about it."
Mu Yunze sighed; he just wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
The next day, Mu Yunze steeled himself and sought out Chu Mohan. He stood outside her dormitory building, hesitating for a long time before finally mustering the courage to call her.
"Hello, Chu Mohan, this is Mu Yunze."
"I know," Chu Mohan replied calmly, without a hint of emotion in her voice.
"The counselor wants us to prepare the welcome party together. When do you think we should start?" Mu Yunze tried to keep his tone as natural as possible.
"Two o'clock this afternoon at the Student Union Office," she said before hanging up.
At two o'clock that afternoon, Mu Yunze arrived punctually at the Student Union Office. Chu Mohan was already there, dressed in a simple white shirt and jeans, looking fresh and capable.
"You’re here," she glanced up at him and said flatly.
"Yeah," Mu Yunze nodded, feeling the atmosphere was somewhat awkward.
"What ideas do you have for the program?" Chu Mohan asked directly.
Mu Yunze was taken aback; he hadn’t thought about this at all. He had expected her to mock him but was surprised when she approached the discussion seriously.
"I—I haven't thought it through yet," he stammered.
"Let me know once you do," she replied and then lowered her head to start flipping through some documents in front of her.
