Mu Yunze sat to the side, feeling like a fool. He watched Chu Mohan's serious profile as she worked, a mix of emotions swirling within him. He didn’t know how to face her or how to break the awkward silence.
The welcome party went surprisingly well. Chu Mohan’s meticulousness and Mu Yunze’s gradual display of leadership made the event spectacular, drawing thunderous applause. As they took their bows, standing at the edge of the stage and looking at the cheering crowd, Chu Mohan let out a gentle sigh and turned to Mu Yunze with a faint smile: "We did it."
Mu Yunze's heart skipped a beat. In the past, Chu Mohan's smiles had always been polite yet distant, as if separated by a thin veil. But at this moment, her smile felt so genuine, even carrying a hint of reliance? A warm current surged through him, sweeping away the shadows of rejection he had faced before.
After the party ended and the crowd gradually dispersed, Mu Yunze mustered his courage to call out to Chu Mohan: "Chu Mohan, wait a moment."
Chu Mohan paused, tilting her head in confusion: "What’s wrong?"
The streetlights elongated her figure as the evening breeze tousled her hair. Mu Yunze felt a tightness in his throat: "About what happened last time, I’m really sorry. I know I might have been a bit abrupt, but I truly like you."
A flicker of surprise crossed Chu Mohan's face before she regained her composure: "Mu Yunze, I know you’re a good person, but—"
Mu Yunze interrupted her urgently: "But please give me a chance, okay? Let me prove that I can treat you better than anyone else."
Chu Mohan fell silent; the moonlight illuminated her face, making it difficult for Mu Yunze to read her expression. He could only sense her inner struggle. Just when he was about to lose hope, Chu Mohan finally spoke: "Mu Yunze, I—"
"Chu Mohan!" A sudden voice shattered the delicate atmosphere.
Chen Yichen rushed over, breathless, grabbing Chu Mohan's arm and glaring at Mu Yunze: "What are you doing bothering her again? I saw you getting close to Han Jincheng; now you’re here trying to mess with Chu Mohan again. What do you want? Who do you think you are? Is playing with girls' feelings amusing to you?"
Mu Yunze's face turned pale instantly. He hadn’t expected Chen Yichen to show up so suddenly or to say such things. He knew Chen Yichen had a crush on Chu Mohan and had previously hinted at his discontent with Mu Yunze, but he never thought it would explode like this.
"Chen Yichen, what are you doing? Let go of Chu Mohan!" She was taken aback too; she hadn’t anticipated Chen Yichen’s outburst. But she was even more concerned about him holding onto her arm.
Mu Yunze suppressed his anger: "Who I date is my own business; you have no right to interfere!"
Chen Yichen sneered: "You think I don’t know what you’re up to? You just want to play both sides—eating from one bowl while looking into another!." He turned to Chu Mohan: "Chu Mohan, don’t be fooled by him; someone like him isn’t worth your sincerity!"
Chu Mohan’s expression darkened as she glanced between Mu Yunze and Chen Yichen, unsure of what to say.
