Mu Yunze hailed a taxi and headed straight for the address on the note: the Central Hospital. He was calculating that since Liu Feng was pretending to be sick, he must be staying in a high-end ward, and he needed to investigate.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Mu Yunze made his way directly to the inpatient department but couldn't find Liu Feng's name in the premium ward area. He frowned; could it be that this guy was hiding? That seemed unlikely. Ye Jingtai had staged this whole thing, and Liu Feng would definitely have to cooperate in the act—there was no way they would let him hide away.
Just as Mu Yunze was pondering where Liu Feng might be concealed, a commotion broke the silence of the hospital corridor. The noise surged like a tide, growing clearer and mixed with surprise, chatter, and a hint of excitement. Curiosity drove Mu Yunze toward the sound. He walked down the long corridor and turned a corner, where he found the source of the ruckus: a large crowd gathered at the entrance of a regular ward, packed tightly like buzzing bees.
Some people were craning their necks to peek inside the room, others were whispering to each other, and some were pointing into the ward with excited expressions. This lively scene magnetically drew Mu Yunze closer as he hurried over to find out what was happening.
"What’s going on? What happened?" Mu Yunze asked a nearby student who was part of the crowd.
The student looked at him in disbelief, as if unable to comprehend that he didn’t know what was going on. "You don’t know? Liu Feng got beaten up and ended up in the hospital!"
"Liu Feng? He’s in the hospital?" Mu Yunze felt a jolt of confusion wash over him.
"Yeah! I heard they really laid into him—his face is all swollen, and he’s got bandages on his head!" another student chimed in, their tone laced with schadenfreude.
"Who did it?" Mu Yunze pressed further.
"No idea; they haven't caught the culprit yet."
Mu Yunze's confusion deepened. He squeezed through the crowd, determined to see Liu Feng's injuries for himself. It wasn’t easy pushing through to the door of the ward, but he finally caught sight of Liu Feng lying in bed.
Liu Feng looked pale, his head wrapped in thick bandages, his face bruised and swollen like a pig's head—he certainly appeared to have been hurt badly. Mu Yunze stood frozen; what on earth had happened? Had Liu Feng really been beaten up? But he hadn’t laid a hand on him!
At that moment, Ye Jingtai swaggered over with several lackeys in tow. Spotting Mu Yunze standing among the crowd, he smirked coldly and spoke mockingly, "Oh look, isn’t this our student Mu Yunze? What brings you here? Came to check on your victim?"
Ye Jingtai’s voice wasn’t loud but was clear enough for everyone around to hear. The students nearby immediately cast disdainful glances at Mu Yunze, their whispers growing louder like a swarm of mosquitoes buzzing in his ears.
Mu Yunze took a deep breath and tried to remain calm; he knew he couldn’t lose his composure. "Ye Jingtai, I don’t know what happened here, but I can assure you that I didn’t hurt Liu Feng."
"Didn’t hurt him? Then how do you explain those injuries on his face?" Ye Jingtai pointed at Liu Feng in bed with a mocking tone. "Did he just fall down by himself?"
Mu Yunze found himself at a loss for words; he truly couldn’t explain Liu Feng’s injuries.
"Stop pretending, Mu Yunze!" Suddenly, Liu Feng—who had been feigning weakness on the bed—spoke up with venomous intent in his voice. "You beat me up like this and still want to deny it?"
Mu Yunze stared at Liu Feng in disbelief; he hadn’t expected Liu Feng to twist things around so brazenly.
"Liu Feng, you..."
