However, things were not that simple. Ye Jingtai's influence ran deep within the school; he spread rumors and incited public opinion, portraying Mu Yunze as a ruthless hypocrite. In no time, everyone in the school began to avoid Mu Yunze, and some even started verbally attacking him and issuing personal threats.
Mu Yunze found himself isolated once again, feeling as if he had fallen into an abyss with no glimmer of hope in sight. He even began to doubt himself, wondering if he had truly done something wrong.
Just when he was on the verge of breaking down, Han Jincheng appeared. She burst into his dormitory, grabbed him by the collar, and exclaimed, "Mu Yunze, are you still a man? Hiding here like a turtle is nothing to be proud of!"
Mu Yunze was taken aback; he hadn’t expected Han Jincheng to confront him in such a manner.
"Do you know what people are saying about you out there? They say you’re violent, that you’re cunning and deceitful," she continued.
"I know," Mu Yunze replied in a low voice tinged with despair. "But I explained myself; no one believes me."
"Explain what?!" Han Jincheng interrupted. "Do you think those people care about the truth? They just want to see the drama unfold; they want to see you fall from grace!"
Mu Yunze fell silent; he knew Han Jincheng was right.
She yanked him up from the bed. "Come with me!"
"Where?" Mu Yunze asked, confused.
A sly smile crept onto Han Jincheng's face. "To slap those gossiping fools in the face!"
Without waiting for his response, she dragged Mu Yunze out. He felt like a marionette, allowing her to lead him along, his eyes vacant as if his soul had left him.
Han Jincheng brought him to the school basketball court, which was bustling with activity at that evening hour. Ye Jingtai was there, flaunting his achievements with a group of followers.
"Hey, isn’t this our hero Mu Yunze? What’s wrong? After hiding for a few days, finally found the courage to come out?" Ye Jingtai said mockingly, prompting laughter from his entourage.
Mu Yunze clenched his fists, his nails digging into his flesh, yet he remained silent.
"What’s wrong? Lost your voice? Weren’t you quite talkative before? Come on, tell everyone how you accidentally beat Liu Feng to such a state!" Ye Jingtai pressed on provocatively.
Han Jincheng pushed Mu Yunze forward. "Speak! Explain yourself to them!"
Taking a deep breath, Mu Yunze raised his head, but confusion and helplessness still filled his eyes. "I didn’t hit him."
His voice was barely audible, nearly drowned out by the surrounding noise.
"Ha! Did you hear that? He says he didn’t hit anyone! That’s hilarious!" Ye Jingtai laughed exaggeratedly while his followers joined in the mockery.
"What evidence do you have? What proof can you show that you didn’t hit anyone?" Ye Jingtai taunted him.
Mu Yunze opened his mouth but found himself unable to say anything. He truly had no evidence; he couldn’t even clearly remember what had happened that day.
"No evidence? Then that means you did hit him! You dare to act but can’t own up to it—what a coward!" Ye Jingtai declared triumphantly.
At that moment, Han Jincheng suddenly stood up and declared, "I have evidence!"
