"Really?" Han Jincheng raised an eyebrow, leaning in closer, their noses almost touching. "You better work hard then, or else if someone else steals me away, don’t come crying to me."
Mu Yunze's heart raced faster; he felt like a little deer being hunted, nervous yet excited. He took a deep breath and mustered his courage to say, "I-I will try my best!"
Han Jincheng nodded in satisfaction, his eyes sparkling with charm. "Now that's more like it."
Just as they were enjoying their conversation, Mu Yunze's phone on the table buzzed, breaking the tranquility of the dinner. The screen lit up, showing an incoming call from Li Haoyu.
Mu Yunze picked up the phone and instinctively glanced at Han Jincheng before pressing the answer button. "Hello, Li Haoyu?" he said softly, his tone laced with curiosity.
On the other end, Li Haoyu's voice came through, slightly anxious. "Mu Yunze, have you signed up for the Debate Competition yet? The deadline is approaching fast! I just saw the notice and wanted to remind you!"
"Debate Competition?" Mu Yunze repeated, his thoughts drifting back to a few days ago when he had seen the registration notice. He had indeed felt a spark of interest and considered signing up but had hesitated due to a lack of confidence and ultimately pushed it aside. Now that Li Haoyu mentioned it, he suddenly remembered.
"Right! You said you wanted to participate before, didn’t you? What happened? Did you forget?" Li Haoyu urged.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Mu Yunze scratched his head. "Ah, I-I haven’t signed up yet."
"Quickly sign up! It would be a shame to miss this opportunity!" Li Haoyu encouraged enthusiastically. "I think you’d be great at the Debate Competition; your speaking skills and logical thinking are impressive!"
Han Jincheng, who had been listening to their conversation, interjected curiously, "Mu Yunze, the Debate Competition? Do you want to participate?"
Mu Yunze hesitated for a moment; uncertainty flickered in his eyes. "I-I don’t know... I’m afraid I won’t be able to do it." He lacked confidence and worried he might not be able to handle the challenges of the competition.
Han Jincheng smiled gently and encouraged him, "What are you afraid of? You're so smart; you'll be fine! Believe in yourself; you can do it!" His eyes were filled with encouragement and support, as if a warm current flowed into Mu Yunze's heart.
"And," Han Jincheng continued, "I will always support you! No matter what decision you make, I’ll be right here with you."
Looking into Han Jincheng's encouraging gaze ignited a spark of courage within Mu Yunze. He clenched his fists and declared firmly, "I’ll sign up!" Han Jincheng’s support gave him immense confidence and solidified his determination to challenge himself.
"That’s great!" Li Haoyu exclaimed excitedly on the other end of the line. "So hurry up and register! Don’t forget to let me know!"
"Okay, I will," Mu Yunze replied as he hung up the phone. Turning to Han Jincheng, he expressed his gratitude, "Jincheng, thank you! I will do my best!"
