Chu Mohan smiled slightly, her eyes clear. "Thank you, Mu Yunze."
Just a few simple words made Mu Yunze's heart race. He longed to tell her how much he liked her, but when the words reached his lips, they transformed into, "Um, I can help you prepare the materials for the competition. You know, I'm pretty good at information retrieval."
Chu Mohan paused for a moment before nodding. "Sure, that would be great. Thank you."
In the following days, Mu Yunze dedicated all his time to helping Chu Mohan prepare for the competition. He researched literature, organized notes, and even stayed up late to create materials for her. Although it was hard work, he found joy in being able to do something for Chu Mohan, which filled him with immense happiness.
The national academic competition took place as scheduled. Mu Yunze and Han Jincheng arrived at the venue to cheer for Chu Mohan. The competition was fierce, with many skilled participants present. Chu Mohan remained calm and composed, performing exceptionally well as she advanced through each round and ultimately reached the finals.
Her opponent in the finals was Zhao Qing. The two engaged in a battle of wits on stage, exchanging arguments and showcasing their high level of academic prowess. Mu Yunze clenched his fists nervously, his palms sweaty. He wished more than anything for Chu Mohan to win the competition and fulfill her dreams.
During the debate segment of the finals, Zhao Qing's eloquence and references made Mu Yunze's heart race with anxiety. Although Chu Mohan also performed admirably, she seemed to fall slightly short in comparison. He watched intently from the sidelines, feeling sweat trickle down his palms.
Suddenly, Mu Yunze noticed a detail: Zhao Qing's gaze occasionally drifted towards a corner of the podium. In that corner lay his backpack, where he had placed some materials before the competition, including backup arguments prepared by Chu Mohan. Could it be...?
A bold guess flashed through Mu Yunze's mind. He suddenly recalled that just a day before the competition, he had brushed past Zhao Qing while researching in the library. At that time, Zhao Qing had been holding a stack of papers and appeared flustered. Looking back now, that stack of papers could very well have been the materials he had placed in his bag!
A surge of anger ignited within Mu Yunze. He stood up abruptly, disregarding Han Jincheng's attempts to stop him, and rushed to the edge of the podium, grabbing Zhao Qing's backpack.
"What are you doing?!" Zhao Qing's face turned pale as he reached out to snatch back his bag.
Mu Yunze ignored him and quickly opened the backpack, finding Chu Mohan's backup arguments inside—complete with notes made by Zhao Qing!
"Judges! I am reporting Zhao Qing for cheating!" Mu Yunze raised the materials high above his head, his tone resolute.
The venue erupted into chaos. The judges exchanged glances as the competition was forced to pause. Zhao Qing's face drained of color; he trembled but was powerless to refute the accusation.
After an investigation, it was confirmed that Zhao Qing had indeed cheated. He was disqualified from the competition and faced disciplinary action from the school. Meanwhile, thanks to her outstanding performance leading up to this point, Chu Mohan emerged victorious in the competition.
As graduation approached ever closer, the air was thick with a sense of impending separation mixed with youthful hormones and excitement.
