Back to the present.
In the new environment, adapting to her surroundings had kept Rao Jie incredibly busy, allowing her to gradually forget the pain caused by her loved ones. The pastry school was demanding, and to save Rao Jie time, Wu Rong moved her from near Cambridge University to a location closer to the school, ensuring she could focus on her studies.
At the school, Wu Rong's teacher had fallen seriously ill and could no longer continue his research. Consequently, he handed over all his projects to Wu Rong and entrusted her with managing his entire research team. Although Wu Rong preferred working alone, some tasks were simply impossible to complete solo, so she reluctantly accepted the responsibility.
The team members were not particularly close to Wu Rong but were familiar faces who understood each other's capabilities well, making collaboration smooth. Nina had left the team after her unsuccessful confession, choosing to pursue research at another institution, which pleased Rao Jie.
As for the person who had previously stolen Wu Rong's research results, they had not dared to show their face at Cambridge since Wu Rong's return, feeling guilty. While outsiders might not know about the theft, they were aware that the old professor would rather give everything to Wu Rong than to his newly awarded son, indirectly proving that Wu Rong was indeed more capable than the awardee. In fact, Wu Rong later demonstrated this through her own achievements, while that individual failed to make any significant contributions after their award.
A year later.
Rao Jie worked part-time at a bakery while studying at school and earned her certification with excellent grades. The bakery wanted to keep her on as she occasionally made DIY pastries that sold exceptionally well. The manager intended to formally hire her as a pastry chef to provide desserts for the shop.
However, at that time, Wu Rong was invited to Germany for research. Seeing Wu Rong sulking, Rao Jie chose to accompany him instead. She had previously been in touch with Li Zhaofeng's wife, who encouraged her to explore and learn more before rushing into a pastry chef role.
During those three months, Rao Jie traveled with her husband to Germany, enrolling in a pastry training course in Berlin. They explored numerous shops together; some desserts Rao Jie could replicate after just one taste, while others proved challenging. Despite being in Europe, each country had its unique dessert specialties, allowing Rao Jie to learn a great deal.
Afterward, she accompanied Wu Rong on his travels across various countries, indulging in sweets while continuing her education. They also engaged in a fun activity: due to their work nature requiring frequent travel abroad, they would dress in local attire upon arriving in each country and hold a private wedding ceremony for just the two of them, capturing memories through photographs. This idea was conceived by Wu Rong.
He recalled taking her to a church shortly after arriving in London and saying, "What’s the point of a grand wedding back home? It’s just an explosion of enthusiasm all at once. Our wedding can continue as long as we can still walk."
Rao Jie found it hard to resist Wu Rong's occasional romantic gestures; it ignited her youthful heart. Thus, almost every year thereafter, Rao Jie looked forward to one or two weddings planned by them. No matter what demands Wu Rong made on those days, Rao Jie always complied and aimed to satisfy him.
