"Mark, Jingzhu is my friend. She was wronged, so of course I had to help her. Besides, I think Ding Yan's punishment was too light. When Miss Lin arrives, she should properly discipline her subordinates," Jiang Chen replied calmly.
"You've lost your mind! When Miss Lin gets here, you're done for. You injured her subordinate and still have the audacity to speak so boldly. Fine, if you want to show off, go ahead. I'm curious to see how this will end for you—just don't come crying to me," Mark said furiously. Jiang Chen was utterly unreasonable, having offended someone he shouldn't have without even realizing it.
Lin Jingzhu's classmates were equally tense at that moment.
"Senior, who exactly is this Miss Lin? You have connections on Hong Kong Island; if anything happens, you need to help Mr. Jiang," several female classmates urged on Jiang Chen's behalf.
"Ha! Miss Lin is one of the Top Ten Socialites of Hong Kong Island. Offending her is futile; no one can intercede on your behalf," Mark replied.
"What should we do? Hong Kong Island is not like the mainland; we are unfamiliar with this place. Mr. Jiang just said it's his first time here. Senior, you come here often and know the area well; you need to think of a way out for Mr. Jiang since he’s with us," many female classmates expressed their worries. As ordinary people, they felt lost in such situations and were filled with anxiety.
"I have nothing to do with him. You all better pretend not to know him; otherwise, you'll be in trouble too," Mark warned sternly.
As everyone waited anxiously, they finally saw Miss Lin approaching.
Lin Rumei walked over in a long dress, surrounded by a group of admirers. As one of the Top Ten Socialites of Hong Kong Island, she possessed both beauty and grace, instantly capturing everyone's attention upon her arrival.
"Is that Miss Lin? She's so beautiful! Senior, have you met her before?" someone asked.
"Miss Lin is not someone just anyone can approach. I attended the same gala as her once but never had the chance to speak with her," Mark said regretfully, yet he understood his place; a woman of Lin Rumei's caliber was beyond his reach.
"Senior, I don't think Miss Lin seems unreasonable. If we explain things clearly, she should understand," another classmate suggested.
"You're thinking too simply. Miss Lin is a thorny rose on Hong Kong Island; she'll definitely side with her subordinate. This time Jiang Chen is in big trouble," Mark sneered.
Lin Rumei hurried over, her brow slightly furrowed.
"Sister Lin, you have to help me! Someone just hit me," the young boy said as he saw Lin Rumei approaching, rushing forward with a pitiful expression.
The boy's parents quickly followed suit, asking Lin Rumei to seek justice for their son who had been attacked.
"Xiao Guang, who hit you?" Lin Rumei asked with concern since the boy was the son of one of her subordinates.
"It was that woman," the boy pointed at Ding Yan.
Lin Rumei looked up but did not focus on Ding Yan; instead, her gaze landed on Jiang Chen beside her.
She felt as if she had been struck by lightning, frozen in place and struggling to believe what she saw.
