Fate Pendant: Love's Labyrinth: Part 2

The cold wind of Lunar December cut through the air like a merciless knife, stinging my face and making me want to flee. Yet, I could only drag my leaden legs, head down, wandering aimlessly through the dimly lit streets. Just moments ago, I had a fierce argument with Chen Jiahe. His eyes were icy, devoid of any emotion. He simply tossed out the words, "Don't be unreasonable," like a sharp dagger that pierced straight into my heart, leaving me gasping for breath. Tears flowed uncontrollably, blurring my vision; the streetlights and neon signs twisted and blurred like shattered glass. 0

I stopped in my tracks and looked up at the sky. The gray expanse was devoid of stars, the city's light pollution suffocating the night sky. I gritted my teeth, trying to suppress my sobs, but the tears fell like a river breaking its dam, drop by drop landing on the pendant resting against my chest. 0

Speaking of which, I bought this pendant just a few months ago. That day, I was out shopping alone, feeling utterly miserable. The shopkeeper had told me with a mysterious smile that this pendant would bring good luck and even change my fate. I had laughed it off, thinking she was just talking nonsense, but then I thought to myself—could things get any worse? Now, I regretted my naivety deeply; it had brought me no fortune at all but instead led me deeper into despair time and again. 0

I stared at it, emotions swirling within me until I felt suffocated. 0

How did I end up here? 0

Everything had to start from the beginning. 0

The words "marriage pressure" felt like a monstrous flood to me back then. The phone at home rang incessantly every few days; my mother's voice pierced through the receiver directly into my ears: "Xiao Yan, you're not getting any younger. The daughter of Old Wang next door has already had her second child! Are you trying to drive me crazy?" 0

"Mom, I'm busy with work," I replied dismissively. 0

"No matter how busy you are, you need to settle down! Do you think you're Superman?!" My mother persisted relentlessly. "I've arranged for you to go on a blind date next Saturday. The guy's conditions are decent; meeting him won't hurt." 0

After hanging up the phone, I stared at the ceiling for ten minutes in a daze. The pressure of being mocked by my family for not settling down felt like a mountain pressing down on me, making it hard to breathe. Eventually, I caved in and inexplicably agreed to my mother's arrangement. 0

On the day of the blind date, as I pushed open the café door, my emotions were a tangled mess. The faint aroma of coffee filled the air, but I couldn't muster any enthusiasm. After scanning the room, I spotted Chen Jiahe in a corner. He wore an old-fashioned plaid shirt and black-rimmed glasses; he looked somewhat dazed yet clean-cut. He stood up and waved at me with a shy smile: "Are you... Miss Lin Xiaoyan?" 0

"Mm." I nodded and sat down across from him. 0

At first, our conversation felt a bit awkward, as if we were both treading carefully on thin ice. But gradually, he began to share lighter topics, like the puppy he had as a child and a competition he had messed up in college. I noticed that when he talked about these things, a hint of childlike innocence would surface, and that inexplicably brought us closer together. 0

"Miss Lin, do you like to travel?" he asked cautiously. 0

"Of course!" My tone brightened considerably. "But I'm always too busy with work to find the time." 0

His eyes lit up for a moment. "If we have the chance in the future, we could go see the ocean together." 0

That day, we talked about many things—from travel to future life plans, from ideal types to hobbies—and surprisingly, we found ourselves in sync. When he tentatively asked if we could meet again, I hesitated for a second before nodding. 0
